    Cartridge repair

It seems often these days that we receive poor or shonky service however today my cartridges arrived back from Axel and after testing them I was so impressed with his work that I felt it shouldn't go unrecognised on the Forum.  I would like to publicly express my thanks to Axel for providing a good service and also for such a quick turnaround of my two cartridges and based on my personal experience would be happy to recommend his work to anyone who needs a cartridge rebuilding.  Clive

    Re: Cartridge repair

I can only agree with you.
I had a bunch of cartridges done by Axel and the results were excellent.
Quality never goes out of style, it just gets harder to find.

    Re: Cartridge repair

How do the MMC20 range fair with a retip..? Does he chop the end off like the later range or is he more restricted...? Last I checked there were only the MMC x range on his site...

I think Peter has had a 20CL or similar done so he will know.

Axel has my first 3 MMC20 series of mine to do at the moment, due back any day. He has done loads of MMC4's and MMC2's for me and they have all been superb.

    Regards Graham

I only have good things to say about the rebuilt MMC20's.

I have had a MMC5000 and a MMC20S retipped - both with Shibata tips. The fronts are not cut off. They are both superb . Soundproof has also tested them both and liked them.

    Re: Cartridge repair

Axel will be busy on my behalf soon. I have an MMC2 I want him to look at, and then I'll be needing an SP for my Beogram 3000 Thorens, and I believe I'll do what Peter did, and have that retipped.

And I have an SP 8/9 which I'll mount on another tonearm ... that should be looked at.

The MMC5000 Peter mentions above is wonderful.

Anyone want to guess when B&O are coming with a vinyl deck? Big Smile

    Re: Cartridge repair

One thing I would like to know is what the various tips should look like in top notch condition, and some way of grading the general appearance e.g. visiula difference between a CL and S type - has Beoworld ever tried to get members to take some snaps of needles of various conditions?

Peter has taken quite a few with his microscope over the years, but I don't think anyone's had a bash systematically at doing this.

wow! Very impressed - I love the cantalever too! Would love to know how they mass produce somthing like this...

Anyway, have you ever thought about making a little compilation Peter? It would help some of us less experienced when checking / assessing cartridges. Also just for curiosity's sake!

I don't actually have that many left! I gave away a lot of my cartridges but will do some pictures of those I have left! I'll work this out this week end.
