Just to say a big thank you to Pedro for a super article on how to connect a Mac Mini to a BV7. I attach this to this post but it will also feature in the BV7 manual pages and as a FAQ. A big thanks to him. Members who contribute in this way are the lifeblood of the site. I am also immensely impressed with how the Spanish Forum has sprung into life and is almost the busiest and certainly the friendliest area on the site.

Coolskin - on the back panel you should have four digital input RCA coax connectors, marked A1, A2, etc.

If you get a toslink s/pdif to coax s/pdif converter, such as the one shown in the ebay link above my post, then you just run a coax cable from the converter to one of the digital in. Your television will then receive the 5.1 (or DTS) signal.

However, I seem to remember a post here about a converter not working, when converting from toslink optical to coax digital. If the one Ralf is linking to works then I'd get that.

You'll get a smile on your face when you get it working with full surround!

Wait, I think I'm missing something. DVDPedia doesn't rip DVDs to your mini, does it?  It just catalogs what you have... or? 

You need to use other software to create the rips. Handbrake or Mactheripper -- but you can link DVDPedia to your DVD TS_Files, and then start playback from inside the coverflow display of DVDPedia, either using DVD Player or VLC (or any other playback you prefer).

Thanks to soundproof I'm now able to watch my DVD collection on my multimedia Mac Mini.

The project is not finished. Next steps are:

- Audio playback including surround sound through BV7

- User interface with Apple Remote (I have a non-IR reciever Mac Mini [first edition])

- User interface with BEO4 (Lintronic??)

Ah, good stuff, here and the other thread.  I looked at the Kalidescope (or whatever) system, too and for $18 and a bunch of harddrives, this is a better way to go.  Very nice.  It might be worth it to get an iPod touch just to control all this stuff!

One question: if you have your Mac running this software as well as Beoport, can you run the sound for the DVDs out through the Beoport to the B&O system?  Here's my mad master plan:

1 MacMini (newest revision) currently my iTunes server, accessible over the network with NetTunes from any of my other Macs (I have 5 others =O)

Beosound 4 (with BL6000) hooked up to Airport Express through the Aux

Toshiba 42" LCD with BL4000 (speakers in transit, woot!)... DVD player hooked to TV. (I'm quitting on surround sound for awhile, trying the minimalist approach)

When they're in stock again, I'm going to get a Beoport and attach it to the Mini and the BS4 (which are in the same rack)

 

So this leads to my question... if I want to play a DVD on the Mini and watch it on my Toshiba, will I be able to route the sound to my BS4 or...?
