S45 speakers for my 1983 5000 music centre

It had to happen, the speakers are now making a fuzzy noise as if the material has delaminated or suchlike.  I live in Surrey in England and wonder if anyone can repair this fault.  Any ideas?  I can get to London easily too.  Rod.

If they just need refoaming, I could give it a go for you. I have done a good few sets of speakers with no problems. Im in Surrey too.

Hi, thanks for replying.  I would be very happy for you to have a go at refoaming them.  What sort of cost would be involved?  Please contact me on 07768 428845.  Thanks, Rod.

Just a bit of advice - don't play the speakers again until they have been refoamed. You will very quickly destroy the voice coils if you do so & then there's nothing for it but to try find replacement drivers.

Hi Chris, thanks for the advice.  Luckily I haven't usded the speakers since the fuzzy noise appeared so now I definitely won't until they're fixed.  Love the dogs - I used to have a golden "tree top" cocker.  Cheers,  Rod.

Thanks Rod - I've always admired Cockers. A neighbour of mine has just got a cross between a Cocker & a Poodle - they are called "Cockerdoodles" apparently (I'm not making this up BTW). Apparently his wife suffers from pet hair allergy & this dog breed gives the benefit of no hair loss (poodle) & the total insanity of the Cocker. He's an absolute beauty & like a weird manic teddy bear with ADHD.Laughing

Hey Chris, that's a great response!  That is just too funny.  We should all have cockerdoodles.  What a great way to turn a silly dog (sorry poodle lovers) into a brilliant dog.  You deserve an incredibly large pint of Telteys.  I'm still hoping "Beaker" will contact me and fix my speakers - fingers crossed.  All the best, Rod.

Hi Richard, I've looked at Ebay and there are no surrounds for the S45 speakers.  Thye are selling them from the Netherlands for C30, C40, C75, CX5, CX100 and 0,CX100.  Are any of these any good?  Rod.

Just finished re foaming a pair of S45's myself, some achievment for someone born with 10 thumbs, and all of them left handed!  Not too high on the 'degree of difficulty' ladder I'll admit however I personally find it very satisfying in bringing something back to life, particularly in the age of the use it once and toss it mentallity.
