    Rear Speakers Recommendation

    Hi everyone,

I have a Beovision 10 with a pair of Beolab 3 as front speakers and I am thinking about adding some rear speakers for a more surround experience when watching movies, which ones would you recommend.

I must add that I live in a condo so I can not go over the top in terms of sound power (is my humble understanding that the better the speaker the better it sounds at low volume).

It would be just for movies as I prefer to listen to music in stereo with the beolabs 3.

    Thank you

    Re: Rear Speakers Recommendation

People tend to say that Lab3s are wasted as rears, so you probably wouldn't like another pair working at partial capacity for the same price.

    I would go 4000s or 4s.

I'd go for another set of Lab 3's or go for Lab 4000's which make good rear surrounds but with keeping with the Lab 3's you have matching speakers all round and the acoustic lens technology that your used too.

I would get the cheapest available. Second hand pair of BL4000s would be my choice. Beolab 3s will be only worth it if you have £3000 burning a hole in your pocket. I would actually get a BL11 first.

Thank you for all the recommendations.

Doctor, I find interesting your advice. I have a couple of question:

    1) Have you heard at the BL 3s with a BL 11?. If so do you think it add some to the set-up?

    2) Regarding the rear speakers, I must say that I agree with you about the BL4000s, my only doubt is if the BL3s will not overpower the BL4000s?

    Re: Rear Speakers Recommendation

I don't have a BL11 so have not heard one at home. I have however had both a BV10 and BL3s. The BV10 needs upper bass and so does the BL3 - one of its slight weaknesses. I have used a BL2 but this would be unsuitable for you in your setting. The sub-woofer makes far more difference IMHO than rear speakers. BL3s will not overpower BL4000s. BL4000s will actually produce more absolute volume in sound pressure terms as they have more bass. Very under rated, especially the mark ones. They have the advantage that you can place them almost anywhere - floor atnds, wall brackets or in a bookshelf. And I think they are very pretty! Smile

    Re: Rear Speakers Recommendation

For a nice surround sound experience an other pair of BL 3 would be just burning money... a used pair BL4000 or Bl6000 will do the job perfectly, your mounting/placing preferences might help to make up your mind. So hopefully with the saved money you could place an order for a BL11.

However, if both are not in budget, I would invest in the BL 11 first!

I have just purchased a set of used BL4000 MK1, and I have BL9 as front, BL7-2 as center and BL2 as sub. I think the BL4000 fits perfectly into my setup.

I just listened to Toto Live in Cencert "Falling in between" using speaker 4 mode, that was actually a totally new and exiting experience. The BL4000 sounded great here also.

    There is something about B&O.....

    Thank you all,

So far very interesting. I would say that based on the posts I am leaning towards the BL4000 or the BL6000. Could someone tell about their experience with any or both of them.

    Re: Rear Speakers Recommendation

The BeoLab 6000 often ends up firing into the back of the sofa as the drivers are only half-way up the column which often makes them next to useless IMO.

The BeoLab 3 is actually the most ideal speaker in the range as a rear - loud enough for domestic surround sound, and a VERY wide dispersion (something which is often the downfall of bad surround sound systems).

Saving that, the 4000 is also great as a rear speaker, and more suitable than the 6000 in (almost) every way...

    Re: Rear Speakers Recommendation

I had been in the same situation about 1,5 year ago. Setup: BV7, BL7-1, BL8000's fronts and i concluded on BL4000's as rears (next step to add a BL2). Not one second i doubted my choice. Crystal clear sound although in a 5.1 setup rears do not get so much sound overload. Bur on my favourite SPEAKER4 for music and even football matches...I JUST LOVE IT. Plus you get more mounting solutions for them which is something that should be considered also. Hope this helps.

I think its hard to beat the 4000s for their sound and mounting versitility, I use them in all my link rooms and have 4 of them with the avant .

    Re: Rear Speakers Recommendation

I had a similar dilema and with the suggestions of many beoworlders i chose to do the following, I had BL8000 as front and 4000's as rears but now I have BL8000's as front and rears for my TV setup and moved the 4000's as rears in My projector and 7.1 setup , both then and now I am very happy with the 4000's as rears, the sound is just great.
