BeoLab 8000 for BeoLab 8002 exchange used for new
I was thinking about exchanging old pair of BeoLab 8000 MKI for a pair of new BeoLab 8002. Slovenian dealer is willing to trade in my old speakers which are in very good condition for only 600,-€ Do you mean this is a honest deal?
Did someone allready trade in a pair of BeoLab 8000 for BeoLab 8002 and how much did you get fora pair of MKI version BeoLab8000?

Here in the UK you would expect to make at least double or possibly treble that amount by selling privately, so upgrading in the way you describe doesn't seem very cost-effective to me!

Why do you want to "upgrade"? B&O claim no performance benefit with the newer speaker and, cosmetically, they are all but identical.

I wouldn´t call the bizarre dot under the bottom of the textile cover of the 8002 "identical". Makes the whole thing look totally post-modern. Like the small ball on top of "La Conica", the Aldo-Rossi-Espresso-Maker made by Alessi. Spoils the design. Sorry, just my 2 cents.

Current thoughts are that the amp change is for regulatory reasons (power dissipation in standby) and maybe a cost saving in manufacture. B&O themselves claim that "the sound remains the same".
We're still waiting for someone to post an objective side by side review of 8000 vs 8002.
If you have a spare ~€2500 burning a hole in your pocket, I'd personally spend it on something else

I agree! Looks like someone broke into the Louvre and glued a clown nose on the Mona Lisa!
Hmmm... to make matters worse -it appears that the official B&o pages show photo-shopped versions of BL8000 pics in the various setup scenarios!

Finally, they are on the US website.
I wasn't really expecting them to actually advertise it as the "8002," I thought that was just for us nerds but thats cool.
I think the dot does spoil it a little but it doesn't bother me that much. The most unbelievable thing they did was leave the dot black on the white fret!

I sold my MK1's on Ebay for £1100 recently
Wont the 8002's be an improvement over the MK1's as they match the MK2's tech spec?

Frankly, I wonder why the 8000/2 are still around at all after all these years.
If there's an item to stop in the B&o range it should be these, the styling is out of date to me, these pillar-like speakers are not special at all anymore because almost any other audio-brand as copied the idea. More importantly, sonically, they are not worth the money.

JC, they are still in the range, for a simple reason, they aer their best selling speakers. Their are considered design icons, and you're the first person I hear saying they are out of date in term of design.

Re: BeoLab 8000 for BeoLab 8002 exchange used for new
Beolab 8000 are B&o design icons, but they are design icons from yesterday. Just like a Beolab 5000 is a design icon. In the world of industrial design things move on, and more so in the world of consumer electronics. But B&o stands apart here by their relative timeless design/ philosophy. Nearly every single B&o product is a designclassic or a design classic-to-be. But still I think one can see these speakers are from the 90s. And that's why I'm surprised the factory still produces them. Like the Beolab 5000 there are much products that could still be produced today, so what makes the 8000's stand out from it's design-icon-colleages?

The new speakers Beolab 5 and 9 have a much better sound, but they are less easy on the eye. some people love them (mostly men) and some others don't.
I think the Beolab 8000 are appealing to more people, oh, and they're cheaper!

The BL8000 just passed 500,000 units in production in the past year or so. An absolute home run.
Its like saying Porsche should stop production on the 911. I mean they have made it for the past 1000 years it seems and this years model looks the same as day one! Looks incredible to most (still!) and people just keep buying them...

Re: BeoLab 8000 for BeoLab 8002 exchange used for new
Agree - I think the 8000/8002 is a gorgeous looking speaker. There have been calls for years to make them ICE powered (I should say not from me ) and I think this is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. I know they thought about just calling the new ones the 8000 - much like they have done with the 4000 which exactly the same thing has happened to. I am sure they will perform in much the same way but would certainly not go and swap. If I was looking for a new pair, I would happily audition a pair of 8002s.

Re: BeoLab 8000 for BeoLab 8002 exchange used for new
I had to visit the homepage to see what you where talking about (for the first time in a least a year).
OMG! I never judge new thing just by a photo. Always want to see them IRL first, but what the heck is that thing below disturbing the picture?
By they way, I save an add for used 8002 and thought that must be the first second hand 8002. But the picture shows an 8000, so the seller just checked the website to see the name. It's Bang & OLUFSEN!
She's states she sells the set up with sadness in her heart. But I must say it can't compete with the sadness in my heart when I see the pictures! Poor things, I hope they will find a better home. [:'(]
