Low ouptut beogram 5500 with Beomaster 6500

Hello-I recently bought a Beogram 5500 turntable and am trying to use it with my Beomaster 6500 and the output is very low-almost no sound until I turn the Boemaster 6500 to full volume. I have not tesed the turntable with any other system yet..is it possible that the 6500 is not compaible or more likely a problem with the turntable/cartridge?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi & welcome to Beoworld, this is a very familiar story. It is a compatability issue but not insurmountable.

Neither the Beomaster 6500 nor the Beogram 5500 have an RIAA phono preamp fitted.

In the 6500 system it was fitted to the turntable & in the 5500 system it was fitted to the beomaster. You will need to fit an external preamp between the 2 to get the correct signal level. (B&O did produce a RIAA board to retro fit but these are very very rare to find these days)

Steve at Sounds Heaveny (one of the site sponsors) sells a RIAA kit with all the correct converter leads. You won't know the state of the cartridge until you do this.

    Chris.

The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.

... or you install this little board in your preamp of the BM6500/7000. Cut 2 wires and it will work.

I dont know, wether this RIAA board is still available.

    B&O part number:  ???

Re: Low ouptut beogram 5500 with Beomaster 6500

Thanks for your help. I just tried the turntable with a friends Beomaster 5500 and it sounds great! I'm going to look for a Beomaster 5500 to use with the turntable.

I also bought a Master Contol 5500 with the turntable but I can't get that to work consitently with the borrowed Beomaster 5500. I'd like to find a manual for it.

Thanks again for the quick responses!

The Master Control 5500 should work just fine with the Beomaster 6500 as well as the 5500. They do need fresh batteries to work well otherwise they are a bit temperamental with a lot of "No Contact" displays.

    Regards Graham

If you have a good working BM 6500, you will only need a preamp, I use my BG 2404 with my Beosound 3000 and a JEC TL 754 preamp, no problems, and that one you can get "over here".

But if you want to get a BM 5000, you can ship your 6500 down to me in Mexico Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile
