As usual, super attention to detail. And as you say, not bad for 43 years. Shows how well they were made. I doubt many amplifiers of other makes of this age are still working.

The Beolab 5000 cosmetic problem and a little about the restoration.

The wooden cabinet needs a careful treatment and a couple of minor repairs, which must be done with the original Rio Palisander / Rosewood. The finish is important also. I am always using bee wax which will give a fine smooth surface finish.

Here is a full restored rosewood / palisander cabinet for the Beolab, as an example of what is possible.

    Re: A very special BEOLAB 5000 (1967)

A very commen problem of the Beolab 5000 is scratches on the side panels and missing text and scratches on the alu-frontpanels.

See this of the Beolab 5000 special:

    Re: A very special BEOLAB 5000 (1967)

I have now arranged reproduction of the alu-frontpanels and I always replace the sidepanels and the black back-front panel with new-painted (the original color of course).

    The parts looks like this:

    Re: A very special BEOLAB 5000 (1967)

For the fantastic Beolab 5000, I will do the following at the time of restoration:

Replace the black painted parts - sidepanels - back-front panel

Full restoration of the Wood top - rosewood / palisander part.

And the very important full restoration af the technical parts - replacing more than 100 electronic components.

The process will take about 3 month.

    BUT.....................

This special Beolab 5000 will now be stored in my little showroom for other to enjoy and perhaps more important for me to enjoy, because it is really such a apeical BEOLAB 5000 WITH FULL DOCUMENTATION.

I will mention, the Beomaster 5000 is really as beautiful and with full documentation like the Beolab 5000 and I am happy to own that one too.

The reason I dont restore it now. This is because I have so many very nice orders for customers to do and I never restore anything before I have an order from  a customer.

Quality never goes out of style, does it?

Looking forward to the rest of this thread, as a very satisfied owner of a Beolab 5000.

BUT distortion, this is really much too high, although the Beolab 5000 has a pleasant sound and really don’t seems to distort more than 1%. This is one of the “hidden problems “ where you could be very happy to use your Beolab 5000, but not knowing – the sound could be really improved by a full restoration.

I've received my Beolab 5000 restored by Classic Audio at Friday last week. It was like christmas... ;-) The weekend was reserved for listening some vinyl. The difference in sound before and after Frede's work is just unbelievable! It's probably the best investment i did for a long time...

I received my Beolab/Beomaster 5000 last month, along with my Beovox 5000s, Beovox 2500s (4 of them), and stereowidth box (along with Beovox 3000).  It is a truly wonderful system.  I feel at times as if I should donate them to a museum, but that of course won't happen!

How does that work? Do you cleanup and reprint the original graphics or actually make the part up?

    Re: A very special BEOLAB 5000 (1967)

    Hi All,

Today is THE day I've been waiting for.

The Beolab 5000 has arrived from Germany.

When I saw it for the first time on Ebay Germany, I couldn't believe my eyes.

A Beolab 5000 in very good condition, with all the documents, user manual, Beolab 5000 book, service book, test certificate and a warranty card all in German language.

When I unpacked the set, I was very pleased to see that it's almost in mint condition.

Only the little rubber feet show some cracks due to aging.

    Finally,   I've a complete set.

For those who are wondering about the colored dots on the master 5000, I've also included the pictures of the station markers.

To my surprise, I also found the original price list of the 5000 system, in DM (German Marks) .

    Rudy

Wonderful find - I must confess to hating the sticky labels put on the tuning scales though - a Beomaster 1700 tuner of mine had some on and theywere a pig to get off!

The big question will be, which Beogram are you going to get to match the system and do you have the speakers?!

    Re: A very special BEOLAB 5000 (1967)

    Hi Peter,

I'm also not so lucky with the sticky labels, but these were already on when I bought the Beomaster 5000.

I've got already a pair of Beovox 5000 MKI speakers.

A good Beogram, will be the next item to look for.

    Maybe a  Beogram 3000 ???

Let's hope that sooner or later one will show up for a decent price.

I'm sure Jacob Jensen became very fond of the person who came up with the idea for those station markers!
