Don 't be to exited about the current 1080P panel from Panasonic. Your resolution may increase but the contrast ratio is halved from 10.000:1 to 5000:1. I have read a lot of reviews of the 50 inch 1080p plasma televisions from Panasonic and alomost everyone prefers the 720 panel with the hihger contrast. This does not mean ofcourse that forever the contrast of a 1080p panel is worse. For example. The new 720P panels from Pioneer have a contrast ration of 16.000:1 but the 1080 panels from Pioneer will have a 20.000:1 and 22.000:1 contrast ratio so even higher. It al depends on the brand and type.

Your right that the panasonic 1080 screen has reduced contrast ratio. The issue of other brands though and the contrast ratio seems to vary a lot with the way they measure the CR. Pioneer have always given very high CR ratios but ive not really noticed a difference in the real world which ( if the claims were true) one would if the contrast ratio is over double that of astandard panel

Hello All:
Here in the US, all new BV 9 are Full HD 1080p. For the record, I am not sold on the new BV 9. The picture is great but the thing is huge. The 'beak' that sticks out looks terrible to me. Also, I found that the frame looks like plastic instead of aliminium.
Regards,
Dario

I've seen the BV9 in real life...yes...agree that the frame looks like plastic...a bit too shiny and smooth...the lens takes a bit of getting used to...but it kinda disappear after about 15 mins of viewing... In terms of the picture...it truely looks stunning! I think it's as good as the 1080p screens on the market...so I wonder how much better it can get if it becoomes true HD...and didn't someone say the price will increase?

JOV: Yes, you are right: The frame looks a little like plastic. In my opinion the BV9 is (designwise) a step back (compared to the BV5). BV5 was understatement at its best. Strong geometrical lines, the frame just matte brushed aluminum. Invisible speakers... BV9 is a poser: Huge, shiny, glossy. Look: Here I am! Anyway: Picture quality is stunning, the integrated BS3 is superb.
Oh I bet to defer. There is nothing understated about matching brushed aluminium with a black screen. I will call it simple but the overall effect isn't as minimal or refined as the BV9 minus the acoustic lense. A lot of care have been taken to make the frame of BV9 smooth and glossy. Agreed BV5 is more of a crowd pleaser but from the BV9 you can see more of a luxury and the new direction that B&O is taking. BV5 remind you of a more simplisitic approach to design in the 90s rather than the new take on luxury and refinement of the 2010s. I see the design of 2010s a continuation of what's left from the 90s with a bit more glamour and sophistication.

Magazines are there to SELL the product! Whilst I dont wear rose tinted specs in relation to B&O equipment-- I dont know what source you were watching but the BV9 with integrated BS3 is as good as it gets. The new pioneer is praised for its black levels and BS3 of course helps in that direction which coupled with the BV4 produces a black which cant be blacker!! Its all about the SOURCE to suggest the pioneer is in a class of its own might well be true in the sector it has to compete in

With all the respect. I have seen the Pioneer PDP-508XD and Beovision 9 in the same store together and the Beovision 9 not even comes close to the blacklevel of the Pioneer. That is the plain truth, sorry I can't change that. Everybody who compares it will notice the difference at once!

Well it depends upon the SOURCE as i said before. Indded if its your opinion that as a whole the pioneer beats it hands down well thats great!! Ive only been in electronics and screen manufacturing for 10 years so I probably have much to learn. Overall the bv9 is as good as it gets.

Bingo: Well, take a look for yourself at the new Pioneer and I wonder what you will say:-)
I saw this panel some time ago when it wasin its last stages of development and its avery impressive panel for a plasma. The balcks are very good as indeed are the blacks on the BV9 but there are many issues that make up a good picture its not all about CR and blacklevels. As an overall package in my opinion the BV9 is streets ahead. One factor is to look at anormal terrestrial broadcast and see what the [panel makes of that. THEN compare the 2 images and you will see that the bv9 is in a class of its own!.

Never done a side by side comparison, but I've seen all the hot-picks from other manufacturers, and none of them are a touch on the BeoVision 9 IMO...

I think so much is down to personal tastes that have developed after watching a certain kind of picture. For example I woould never buy LCD to me the picture lacks depth, has motion issues and the colours are to vivid. In my opinion you cant compare plasma to LCD and yet on a recent television program the best LCDs were at one end of the room and the best plasmas at the other. 30 individuals were asked to stand by the product they liked the best and 80% went with LCD!!!!! I was amazed! so I am no longer surprised with anything or individual opinions on products. Its very difficult to do a side by side test unless under proper conditions.

The Pioneer PDP-508XD is really another class of it's own The class of it's own, is that "bad cabling" ? By my opinion i haven't seen a flat screen thats over goes BV5 (when you watch it every day on normal analog, it gives you Chiles) , only BS3 is better...

I have a BV5 and there is no way I will trade it for a BV9. I find the 5´s image still outstanding, great design...just lacks a few inches. I have looked at pioneer and even at FullHD I still like my BV5. If you ever owned a BV5 you will always go for the BV9 over the Pioneer, it just is another experience...
