Re: Beogram 7000 tone arm assembly not moving
OK, these make sense... as you should guess from the tone arm pointing to the sky, things are not right. I believe this black lever that controls the tone arm should be behind the white bar, not in front of it. Then the white bar will be in a more sensible position and the spring should stay on.
I can eventually take a look in mine but that can take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks, so in the meantime, anybody else please feel free to confirm...

I agree. It's on the wrong side of the white bar. You need to release the right end of the rearmost steelrod from the base and correct it.

Re: Beogram 7000 tone arm assembly not moving
Sorry for the delay. I have been busy at work.
Good news: I have fixed the problem with the black lever being in front of the white plastic bar. The black lever is now behind the white plastic bar. Also, the spring is now connected to the peg of white plastic bar.
Bad news: the tonearm is still pointing to the sky.
What is the next step?
Thank you!

Re: Beogram 7000 tone arm assembly not moving
Maybe you need to take off the black carriage top cover and see if the tonearm suspension is OK. It could be stuck in some way. But work with great care. If the tonearm is not correctly suspended, it will only hang by its thin wires.

Re: Beogram 7000 tone arm assembly not moving
Hi, Martin.
Thanks for the advice. I will have to consider it seriously as I have no knowledge about the innards of the BG700 nor do I possess much technical skills. I am also concerned that this is becoming a "Pandora's Box" where more and more problems are being discovered while the original problem remains unresolved.
In any event, please look at the two photos posted previously: #6247 and #6267. These are "top views" of the carriage. Do these photos help in determining the problem? If I reach underneath the carriage, I can push up the carriage so that it reaches the underside of the black carriage top and the two screws of the carriage align with the two screw holes in the black carriage top. Does this indicate anything?
I did not think I did any damage to the whole carriage when I removed the MMC from the tone arm.
Thanks in advance.

This normally occurs because a small plastic protrusion on the underside of the carriage has broken off.
Once the cartridge is installed and the stylus weight set to the correct value, the arm should look and behave normally.

Some pics
The angle and setting of the pivot point has to be dead accurate although this should not need attention in your case!!!!
To be honest it is a bit of a fidly job but if you are very careful and take your time with a steady hand it is definatly worth doing!

Re: Beogram 7000 tone arm assembly not moving
Thanks, Graham. Thanks, Olly.
It would appear that I will need to download the manual and determine whether I have the skills to do all that is necessary. Otherwises, I will be shipping a BG 7000 in pieces to someone like Graham or Martin for re-assembly!
The more I work on the BG 7000, the more problems that arise!

Is there any way that I can "see" whether the plastic protrusion is still in place? I have removed the cover to the tone arm assembly but would really prefer no to remove anything else for fear of not being able to put everything back in the proper place. I certainly do not want to take things totally apart as shown in Olly's photos. I wanted to remove the cover and pull the assembly by the black part off of the white part of the assembly in order to see the underside to determine whether the black protrusion is still in place. The only thing I succeeded in doing was to remove the metal arm bit on the left [when viewing the BG7000 from the front]. The Service Manual does not seem to cover any of this unless I am referring to the incorrect section [section 5-2]?
Is it time for me to surrender and call B&O Service? Help, please.

You could try B&O service and you may be lucky enough to find a technician who knows how these things work. However, the usual reaction from B&O is "Beogram obsolete- parts no longer available".
If you really don't fancy a complete strip down then I suggest that you could buy a cheap Beogram 3000 or 3300 or similar and transplant the carriage complete.
This assumes that you can find someone who can ship it out to you in one piece and working condition!!
Ditto another BG7000

Re: Beogram 7000 tone arm assembly not moving
Thanks, Graham. Are you saying I am between a rock and a hard place -- or more crudely put, SOL? I agree with you concerning B&O Service. However, if I can find the part(s), B&O Service has the technicians who know so much more than I on how to repair beograms.
I will give this another attempt later this week before calling B&O Service. Is there another resource available besides the Service Manual -- I can't seem to find what I need -- or I just do not know what I am looking at.

Re: Beogram 7000 tone arm assembly not moving
You are in that place you mention..........unless you strip it down some more.
None of it is rocket science, only screws and bits of plastic. If the protrusion is indeed broken off and that is the only damage, the arm will still be useable once the cartridge is installed and the stylus weight is set.
I am afraid that the only resources available are the service manual and this forum.

Thanks, Graham. I am rather adept at taking things apart. However, my re-assembly skills set is totally the opposite.

Ha, ha, ha. That is another set of problems: It is a new camera. I know how to activate and de-activate the auto focus and the flash. The rest of the stuff I am still working on -- including how to "downsize" my photos to post on this site! ;)
On a more serious note, I would like to disassemble the tone arm to the stage where it looks like Graham's photo so that I can check for the protrusion which Graham mentions. There appears to be two very small screws on the back underside of the thing that secures the black top portion to the white bottom portion. These screws do not appear to be easily accessible.
The first question: Do I have the correct Service Manual? Mine is taken from this site and lists the Beogram 6500 and Beogram 8500, amongst many others but no Beogram 7000. The Service Manual goes from Section 1-1 to Section 7-2. The languages appear to be Danish, English, German and French. The second question: If I do have the correct Service Manual, where do I find instructions in the Service Manual. There does not appear to be much which is relevant. I just need to be walked through the process one baby step at a time.
Thanks.

Re: Beogram 7000 tone arm assembly not moving
There are no real instructions for disassembly in the service manual. There are line pictures and instructions for setting up but they pretty much suppose that you Beogram is back in one piece already!
That is the correct manual, just an earlier print run. I believe mine does say 7000 on the front cover, must be a later one. The manuals are all identical in content.
You Beogram 7000 is identical in every respect to a 6500 save for the digits on the front panel.
To access the 2 screws on the underside of the carriage, you must remove the carriage from the rails, turn the carriage over, unclip the cables (taking note of their route) and unhook the spring from the raise/lower arm.
Release the screws.
The white part will now pull away from the black part.

If you have MS Office picture manager it simple, open pic with the manager, chose edit images, use auto correction, then change size to big web (640 x 480 px), fits forum page, if more pics just do the same with all of them, then save all, then upload to the file in your profile, and then publish in your thread.
If you post photos its easier to help you, and for you easier to "remember"

At home I use Photoshop, but at work, I use a free online picture resizer.

Re: Beogram 7000 tone arm assembly not moving
OK, I have removed the carriage from the two rods and have released the spring connecting the black top portion to the white bottom portion.
What type of screw driver do I need? The Philips does not work on the two screws [next to the two black wires] on the underside of the carriage. The Philips does work on the single screw at the other end of the carriage.
