    Re: OT: Madrid

    Hi, Malcolm.

I have a conference in Madrid at the Melia Castilla at Calle Captian Haya.  As funding will not cover the cost of the hotel room at Melia Castilla, I am trying to find a hotel/pension that is within walking distance [10-15 minutes].  However, I am having problems with the language [most of the sites are in Spanish] and the Google maps.  Any suggestions?

Plenty of bars here catering to ozzys and pilots.

    Thanks.

PS:  How safe is Madrid?  A colleague just informed me this morning that another colleague got robbed [bopped on the head, knocked unconscious] between the airport and hotel.  I didn't think the city would be that dangerous!

    Re: OT: Madrid

    Dear Malcolm,

Thanks.  Will give it a try; the sites I was using the other day just got me frustrated.

Any advice on where to go [or where NOT to go], to do, eat, etc. that is not found in the guide books?

    Yours,

    Wings

been the capital a big city. so lots of restaurants bars etc. also every time you have a drink at a bar you will receive a little tapas (food) the metro good for getting about very clean, been there at least six times had no problems security wise but like all major cities in the world  just be careful and sensible dont flash wad of money around etc

food wise very cosmopoliton so every taste can be satisfied. large beer una jarra pronounced hara,
