AV5... the tube... good or bad?
Hi guys,
long time since I've been here.
I'm thinking of getting an AV5 for the bedroom. These can be had pretty cheap now, but what about the tube? Is it prone to fail? Is it an expensive one to replace?
Thanks
Andreas

Mine is good.... :)
To check a good Bang tube, the picture should be clear, bright and with vivid colours.
If they are dull, forget it...too much $$$

Tube problems are mainly found in the wide screen televisions. AV5 is a very good machine with an excellent picturequality and very reliable.

Not sure which tube is used in the AV5, but I know the AV9000 used the same as an MX6000. Quite easy to pick up an MX for the tube.

AV 5 was a solitary machine in the B&O tv range, 63 cm screen. You could argue that it was later replaced by the Beocenter 1.

AV 5 has a smaller tube, 63cm which was never used in MX series....

Re: AV5... the tube... good or bad?
I've been dealing in AV5's for about 10 years - and have never had a tube fail. I'm not saying they don't fail - i may have been lucky, but surely not that lucky!
Early curved 28" Avant tubes are the ones that are popping for fun - I'd say around twice to thre times the rate of 32" versions. Again, only in my experience, but i do get through quite a few!
Buying a 4:3 screened TV is a bit of a pain though, unless you're happy with your 25" screen emulating an 18" screen when showing a widescreen movie..

I could be wrong but I'm sure one of our members (possibly Nobby?) successfully transplanted a tube from a LX5500 into a AV5.
