Re: Keep the Beocord cassette decks alive!
Nice thread!
I have a Beocord 5500 and awaiting a 9000 myself
Great machines, I use mine with a stack of TDK SA90's and my parents' old Philips and Maxell tapes.
As far as I know, there aren't many other 17 year old owners of Beocords!

I can't remember exactly how old Alex was when he started posting ... may have been 16 :) ... of course he is an "old" man now :D
First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

And look at this on a well known design website: http://www.designboom.com/contemporary/cassettes.html
Well, that's it then. The British newspaper ''The Guardian'', not exactly a trashy tabloid newspaper, has confirmed that the audio cassette is going through a revival. It's coming back with a vengeance. To all people who responded to this thread: It's official, we are trendsetters! Soon advertising agencies will pay us fortunes for our advice. Well, a pair of Beolab 5’s for all the people on this thread would do.

17 years old and a Beocord fan!!! There is hope for us oldies (I am 41), when the Ipod generation discovers the Beocord cassette decks!
Hehe, people think that I am crazy when I put a tape on the 5500, then they usually are surprised about the quality of my vinyl to cassette recordings! I would also say that my equally aged friends from high school don't think that it is normal for an average high school kid to listen to records and tape - on a Beosystem 8000 that was made ten years before he was born

Re: Keep the Beocord cassette decks alive!
Hi,
For me it's a mint Beocord 2200 (never actually used, not even dusty!) I bought before Tim's article in HFW mind you, and a little used (before me, that is!) Beocord 9000 which sounds formidable. I compare these to a Nakamichi CR-4 which is of course no slouch!

Me too, although the BC5000 (stack model) is spectacular.

The Beocord 9000 is one of the Beocords that I would still like to have one day. One in mint condition and fully overhauled. But they are rare in a restored and nice condition.

It took me three of them to be satisfied! Don't give up!

I'm listening to a recording of Beethoven's 6th from 1927 right now - probably done with wax. Sound quite good, actually. But then the music is good.

Re: Keep the Beocord cassette decks alive!
I am recording some "Dizzy Mizz Lizzy - Reunion tour" on my Beocord 5500, and it actually works very good with a box of 25 year old tapes I bought cheaply some days ago. Maxell UDXLII ">
My 5£ Beocord 9000 is not a good sounding machine in it's state, though I am have found a fully restored one for 50£ at a friend who lives a couple of hours away. I was meant to collect it today, but with over 400 mm of snow it isn't a good idea to drive so far...
