So I picked up another troubled table-an 8000 that needs recapping and work to the sensor arm.

The plexi's pale green. My other 8000 project has a brown tinted cover, just like all the 8002s. Were there 2 colors?

I also hadn't noticed: the green cover doesn't have a flat black band across it's rear but brushed aluminum. The companion tonearm cover is the normal style (black band in rear/brushed aluminum in front) just like every other 8000/8002 I've seen. If it's not original, then it's an incredibly accurate clone down to the frt corner bumpers et al.

It seems to accentuate the innards it shades, making the 8002 more visually attractive and lighter.

I have never seen a green tinted one.

I've noticed that the lids can differ quite a bit and I can see what you mean but I never really considered it green.
I agree, in the above photo, it does look a bit green'ish.

Yes and you too-the greenish one has brushed aluminum. The other one in the picture has the normal black finish althoufh the lighting smears the difference. I'll try to post a better picture with both 8000 covers together. Seeing with ones eyes, the difference is pretty startling.

PS: this table has the metal tacho disc. Did some 8000s come originally that way?

Now you point my attention to it, I can see that one of the Beograms have a lighter color to the
rear alu strip.
In severe cases of sun bleaching, the black anodizing can lose some of it's color and the
lettering will become very faint.
Maybe that could also explain the fainted tinting of the dustcover.
A couple more good photos would be interesting to see.

Yes, the last few Beogram 8000's had the metal tachodisc factory mounted.

Here are 2 images that clearly show the green tint and the bright aluminum trim.

The adjacent tonearm cover is black margin as always (not "faded"), while the platter cover is aluminum margin/green plexi

Interesting - was the back of the arm cover aluminium as well? I imagine an 8000 system with all aluminium finish instead of black - would be something to see!

No-the tonearm cover has the normal scheme, however the black part has a much smoother/polished-looking finish to it, although the normal B&O grained aluminum below it is discernable. The juxtaposition of the 2 bright aluminum parts-one long/skinny (left/rear) and the normal one over the tonearms (right/frt)-works well to my eyes. 

I'm just wondering what it's about. I can see no way that it wasn't manufactured that way, but when and why?

Hm - I don't think you can just remove the anodised finish. It's not like paint you can remove. As far as I know when they anodise aluminum the color gets into the aluminum.

I think that the most B&O dustcovers are "smoked amber" -some has a more blueish tone -some older (Beogram 1203) had a brownish tone. But I have never seen the greenish tone like the one you have. A rarity

You can - one member was removing the colours from speakers just a year or so ago. You need chemicals!

After looking at this... I think this is the answer. A very severe case.

If you look at the text in the first pic -you will notice remnants of the original black under the screened white especially in the letters A and M.

I have a Beolit 707 with anodized black control panel, which has been a possession of my grandparents. It was always placed in a window where the sun always shines. After 25+ years, the anodized black almost disappeared and the letters became quite faint. Exposure to sunlight can simply ruin the anodized panel and lettering...
