I have been moving some stuff around and had what could have been a disaster. I lifted up my BL5000 amp and normally there is no problem as the leads have enough play in them to move it around quite a lot. Not this time though. A lead got caught somehow and basically I dropped it. It landed on its side approx 5mm away from the foot of one of the pentas its connected to. Its a carpeted floor so no real damage done. The only thing that has happened is that the power lamp which I thought had blown and was going to replace now works again!

I was quite sad reading it, just waiting for the moment that you would tell us that is was broken and irreparable. But quickly I had to smile. Such an amazing engineering Bang and Olufsen deliver. You can toss them around and problems fix themselves. So your beolab 5000 is even better after you dropped it.

I was quite impressed when I opened mine up, after getting it from Frede.

Inside, it definitely shows that the people who made it truly cared about quality. Nowadays, in "hi-fi", you'll find a large box with nothing inside, just a little circuit board. Look at this, for instance - it's a CD player which retails for USD 10.000:

At least it did until someone opened it up.

I can well understand why Frede has pretty much dedicated his life to keeping the Beolab/Beomaster 5000 system going.

It was just your day! The B&O gods were with you and your Beolab 5000. I once dropped an old Beomaster 8000 on my foot. The pain was killing me. Just a bit too much Danish overengineering for the averge foot.

With luck like that, id be off to place some bets.

Thanks for all your thoughts, it was fortunate that it missed the Penta otherwise the damage could have been nasty. It was a panicky moment when I first turned it on. I was waiting for nasty noises and was very suprised to see a nice red glow from the power light.

I am very relived for you. I feared the worst when i read the title of this thread!

Beomaster 8000 worked with no problems. The foot took about three weeks to recover!

We weren't concerned about you, beolab1. We Dutchies are tough . GO HOLLAND!
