Beovision 7 40 MK1 Non HD Dolby Digital Problem

When I use either the component HD socket or the DVD-I socket to connect sources to my TV together with connecting a cable to the digital sound input Im unable to get any sound. I am selecting the correct option in  the menu to match the digital input.

If I connect a source using the scart connection the digital sound works fine.

My software is 6.2. Do I have a fault with TV or do I need to upgrade panel to HD to get the digital sound inputs to work with DVD-I and component HD?

    Hi M4SPM

BV 7 MK I and II cant play digital stereo signals through the digital input out of the box. Only surround signals. Try playing a DVD or anything else with surround and then it should work. For stereo 2 Channel PCM You need an upgrade but dont know if it is even possible on a MK I.

    Hi Thanks for that

When I connect my SKY box via scart to the digital input and click on Menu then Sound It shows in the Menu Dolby Digital and sound works. but if I connect via component no sound

Any idea what kind of upgrade this was? Is it software or hardware and if so what hardware needs upgrading (if it is indeed possible)

    Hi again

Connected to digital input using Scart?? Scart is analoge and carries no digital signals. For digital picture, connect your SKY box with DVI or Component. DVI requires sound aswell and your two options are S/P diff or analog sound . S/P diff works only with surround and analog works regardless of input.

Could you please clarify your current setup in details?

Re: Beovision 7 40 MK1 Non HD Dolby Digital Problem

    Yes ok.

I can connect the SKY box using scart cable for picture and use S/P diff for sound and I get sound  and in sound Menu it indicates I have Dolby Digital sound source

If I connect same sky Box to component HD and use S/Pdiff for sound get no sound. (You cannot access menu with this source has it shows a seperate menu to adjust contrast etc when you press menu)

Likewise if I connect my apple TV using component HD I get picture but no sound using S/P diff but using anaolgue left and right sound input get sound

Ok, to make sure that you do not hear the analoge sound through your scart when connected with scart and S/P diff, try unplugging the scartcable while listening to something. This should not affect the sound if distributed through the digital input. My point is that i do not think you ever had digital sound through S/P diff even though your tv tells you so.

    Hi Again.

If it is possible on MK I, it requires a hardware upgrade.

Ask your dealer about your possibillities!

So, did you try unplugging the scartcable to see if you ever had digital sound?

Re: Beovision 7 40 MK1 Non HD Dolby Digital Problem

    Good Morning

Yes I unplugged the scart cable and the sound remains. There is also a noticably improvement in the sound when S/P Diff cable is connected.

My initially thought was the problem was due to me not having the HD upgrade on my TV and if I was to have the panel upgraded to HD the DVD-I and component HD inputs would then work in conjunction with a S/P Diff cable. If that was the case I would upgrade my panel but don't want to do this if I still cant use the enhanced sound with digital inputs

I have all ready spoke to my dealer and he thought it should work regardless of the upgrade.

Hmm, sounds really weird. Your DVI socket should work regardless of HD or not, but ofcause playing HD material will not work.

Maybe someone else has a clue to what is wrong.?

If you are to keep the TV invest in the upgrades, your dealer should help.
