    Simple question on Beomaster 8000

Hello, yesterday I bought a fully functional Beomaster 8000. The only problem is a distortion problem in the left channel... Can it be defective electrolytic capacitors in the left channel?

Re: Simple question on Beomaster 8000

It could be a capacitor problem but it could also be something else.
Is it drastically distorted or "only just" ?
Is the "Clipping" light flashing ?
Have you tried swapping speakers to rule out that the fault lies in one of them ?

In my opinion is the sound very distorted, especially in the high frequencies, no "clipping" light flashing, it doesn't matter if the filters are on or off. I have tried the Beomaster with different speakers, and the problem is reoccuring in the left channel.

Most likely a small signal transistor somewhere, maybe in the amplifier stage, maybe earlier.
You will have to put a signal generator to the tape input (if it also distorts from tape) and a scope
to the signal path and see where the signal gets distorted.

Could be a bad solder joint I think. Very common in BM8000 and they gave me some weird problems with faint, distorted and failing channels.

    Good luck!

Another point of failure is the speaker switches. Ok, that's probably not your problem in this case, but it's still worth mentioning in bm8000 threads as I have had that problem on all of my three 8000s.

Sounds like a minor problem that easily can be fixed. The Beomaster was bought by a person who refurbishes all his B&O himself. I have managed to let him have a look at the Beomaster.
