    Beovision 7-40 and Playstation3

So I am the proud owner of a new 7-40 professional installed television. Some peculiar problems when I hooked it up to the Playstation 3. First, the 7-40 couldn't recognize the hdmi that the ps3 was attached to. The b&o technician tried everything and we eventually reproggramed all the input devices, powered down and powered back up and it finally worked (after 4 hours!). Now I noticed if there is a gas action sequence on the screen (like an explosion when watching Quantum Solace, or a fierce shoot-out on a PS3 game), the 7-40 freezes and then blanks out (it's like it has a refresh issue). I have to turn off the 7-40 and then on again to get it to reset. It's real embarrassing and disappointing when this happens to my fabulously expensive TV. Before I demand a replacement, any suggestions?

Does it only happen when watching PS3?  could be a problem with that.  Why does everybody automatically blame the TV?

It does happen only when the 7-40 is connected to the PlayStation3. When I hook up the playstaion via HDMI to any other of the TV sets in the house, I do not have this issue.  So I have eliminated the PS3 as the problem.  I then used the HDMI cable that the 7-40 is attached to my Apple TV (which works perfectly).  I used that cable and still the PS3 doesn't want to register (Black Screen).  So I have eliminated the HDMI cable.  I even tried to get the PS3 to start in 480p mode and still the 7-40 doesn't catch it.The only thing left is the 7-40 is the problem.  I am coming to the conclusion that the PS3 and the 7-40 are not compatible.   As ridiculous as this sounds, it's the only conclusion left.  I do notice the 7-40 struggles to 'catch' the resoluion.  I have to turn on/off the PS3, Turn on/off the 7-40 several times before I can get them to talk to one another.  And then when they do talk..it's fragile.  If a huge blow-up scene happens during a blueray or PS3 action game, it goes on the fritz and I lose video/audio, having to start the process over again.  Ridiculous for someone who just spent $15K installing this system.  I am very embarased to show the 7-40 and have to tell people it isn't capable of displaying PS3 because it can't keep up.  I am contemplating returning the TV as a defect because the B&O guys can't figure it out either.

If I missed something, I'm all ears.

    Update on Sept. 2.

B&O Technicien came over and installed firmware updates to the 7-40 after we witnessed the PS3 workig fine on other TV's and having some startup issues o the 7-40.  After the update, it APPEARED to have solved the issue.  i could switch from the PS3 to the Apple TV and to Cable seamlessly.  But all problems happen after the technicien leaves.  After playing on the PS3 for about 40minutes without a problem, the 7-40 decides to shut down the soud/video signal.  I have to power off the 7-40 for about 1-2 hours before it can recognizr the PS3 signal.  I have coe to the concusion that the 7-40 cannot process a PS3 signal and that I will need to return the 7-40.  A real shame because the picture quality was stunnig, but cannot stand the fact the TV cannot work as advertised and cannot process simple video signals.  I am going to trade it in for a Panasonic Viera.

BeoVision 7-40 can process a PS3 signal, we connect them all the time without problem. If you haven't already, it might be worth doing a software update on your PS3. If that doesn't solve it I believe you have a faulty DVE board and as your set is under warranty your dealer should be able to sort it quite easily.

HDMI is not a simple video signal i can assure you it is a complex and troublesome beast, I know all manufacturers have struggled with compatibility.  HDMI does a 'handshake' between products which exchange information about what signals they are both capable of handing.  More problematic is the content protection HDCP which uses a set of 'keys' that are used to decode protected content, if the keys don't match you don't get a picture.  All this coupled with the ever changing specification of HDMI (1.1, 1.3b and now 3d compatible 1.4), it's easy to see how much of a headache it's been for our industry.

That said, in your case i think you have been unlucky and have a faulty television.

I hope you get it sorted

    Hi Khannapa

I have an issue not exactly the same as yours but still a little a like. I used to have a 7-40 Mark IV that worked perfectly when i hooked my mini up, playing my ripped blurays in 1080p at 24 hz. Now i had my panel updated to the mk V(same as yours i pressume) and now i cant now play 24hz material anymore without the screen failing to keep up in the lowest 5-10 cm of the screen. Switching the hz to 50 or 60 solves the issue but is not usable when you want a smooth experience. So try switching the updatefrequencies and see if this helps. But regardless, me beeing an unhappy customer with continious isues with my purchased BV 7-40 (for over a year now) i would definetly recommend you to return it and ask for a brand new set. Otherwise they will as they did with me just tell you about the upcomming(In about 6 monts if you are lucky) softwareupdate that will sort your issue, but fail to tell you that it will introduce even more issues. So go ask your dealer for a brand new tv as it cant be right to have a faulty tv when delivered and then have to wait a long time to have it working as intended. If the new tv does not work either, look elsewhere for a new tv. In my opinion, B&O has no 100% functioning tv´s in their productrange at the moment, and the ones that does work are discontinued.

    Good luck

    Re: Beovision 7-40 and Playstation3

Thanks for all the great advice.  I definately have proof there is something wrong.  I videotaped myself playing the PS3 and you can see the video/audio shut down unexpectedly and moments of video signal 'refreshing'.  Something is wrong.  Just very strange it only happens when playing a PS#.  I wonder if I should switch from HDMI to component and see if that improves anything.

My B&O sales person is off to B&O headquarters in Coppenhagen for their annual dealer conference and he will bring this particular issue up to them.  I indicated to him that I want a replacement if a solution is not found within the next 2 weeks.  I have been more than patient but understand everyone wanting to get to the bottom of this.  Stay tuned.

    Re: Beovision 7-40 and Playstation3

Sorry to enter that discussion somewhat late.

I own a Beovision 7 MK III since three years and I never had the problems you mention. I have a Playstation III since December and the video playback as well as HDMI switching performs flawlessly. I therefore suspect that the video board of your TV has a problem.  Your set is certainly under warranty. The reason why the TV fails only with the PS3 is probably because the progressive playback of video or games causes more stress to the defective component due to the higher bandwidth than interlaced video.

    Good luck,

    Jean
