    B&O patents new Cube-shaped Remote Control !

B&O has patented a new Cube-shaped remote control that has no touchscreen and no buttons. It reacts from touch and gestures.

It has been designed by a group of innovator and B&O has now chosen to patent it. It sounds pretty awesome.

Check this link out for more information: http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1281018376

Quite some time ago, I saw a new remote design concept on Ignace website http://www.iggyswebsite.com/ under the headings 'B&O' and 'Magical Interaction'. This design looks very similar to me.

hmm, well that gives me more to think about then.  I've been thinking about getting a remote for the kitchen and my Century.  I thought I would probably get a Beo5 for my living room and move the Beo4 through but then I hate to buy stuff when there's potentially better stuff a few months away.  (This is why I love and mostly own vintage stuff)

It is exactly the same. However the article is about a new remote, which makes it confusing.

From the caption directly below the pic in the linked article...

"Touchless B&O from Innovation Camp 2008 – not the new dice remote control"

This is something all-new. Sounds interesting.

Re: B&O patents new Cube-shaped Remote Control !

March/April 2008, I and several other Dutch members have been testing the remote shown in the picture.

I don't know if the patented remote is the Joris Remote.

Our discussion (Dutch) You can see in: http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/p/12924/95901.aspx#95901

    A little movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=181yeINhvWc&

The remote is designed and made by Joris with no help from B&O. But he had a mentor from B&O. It was his graduation project for the Technical University of Eindhoven (NL).  After the test he had to go to Streuer. And he didn't know what B&O would do with his idea/design.

I and the others loved it and it was simple to use. I realy hope it is the Joris remote.

Yes, they exhibited a remote in 2008. It was this one (scroll to the bottom): http://www.flatpanels.dk/fokusartikel.php?subaction=showfull&id=1212128493

But this one is new. No pictures yet (probably because of the patent application) but I hope we'll see some soon :-)

Remotes, remotes,remotes...aaaaaand.... you guessed it: remotes.

B&O says: You can control everything with one remote!

We say: Oh a new nice remote, where do I need it? (somewhat twisted argumentation chain anyone?)

I say: Don't bring any new remotes unless they can be user programmed or function out of the box!

What I really say: OMG a new remote, I want one!

    :-)

    Stephan

    BL7000 / BL 5000 / Beo 1 / Beo 4 / Beo 5 .... all we need is one remote.... sure!

Interesting news, I waiting to see the design of this new remote.

BTW, I wish the Joris's one would have been launched on the market.

    Cheers,

Concept picture looks too much like a BL2 for my liking!

Sometimes you can try too hard to be different, but then I am someone who likes the Beo4 and really dislikes the look and feel of the Beo5.

Right off the bat... seems like orientation will be an issue -a killer for a remote. No - thumbs down

I agree Graham the Beo4 is still the remote i use today and will carry on using.

I think the Beo5 is absolutly horrid and it looks like the cube will also be the same weird shape.

It does say at the bottom of the artical that B&o have not decided if they will ever make a product
