    Re: Beosystem 3 and Ipod

I just had a software update done yesterday, where the version did not change from 2.7. The technician updated the supported devices to suite my requirements. This included the apple remote & ipod remote.

I havent tried it yet but he said that he has set it up elsewhere.

As i understand it there are so many supported devices now that all can not be stored on the BS3 so its best to choose the ones that you require.

you require the dock with the IR receiving eye and conect via RCA cables to one of the inputs.

Maybe even the video version would work, i don't have a Ipod with video to check but can not see why it would not work.

It's called the 'Universal Dock'. You take an 'IR Blaster' from the right connection on the BeoSystem 3, and tape it to the front of the Universal Dock. The BeoSystem 3 then blasts the Dock's IR eye with the correct codes required to operate the unit.

Then connect the LINE OUT on the back of the dock to an input on the BeoSystem 3. You could even connect the S-Video connection if you wanted! This would allow you to view videos on the big screen (up to 640 x 480 with the latest iPods), and photos (very high quality capability).

Your dealer should be able to supply one Smile It just looks like a cable you would normally find with headphones, but with a small black lump on the end (which is the 'blaster' itself). This then connects to one of the IR outputs on the BeoSystem 3.

But I wonder how you 'assign' it on the menu - my STB list just has a pile of free view boxes?!

Yes, you tell it which IR port it's connected to, and what kind of device it is, and it does all the magic for you...

Do B&O allow you to upgrade the BS3 software yourself, say from a laptop, and would they provide the program? To get a service technician to upgrade what should be a small download seems over the top, especially as there appear to be regular updates. Any thoughts?

    Re: Beosystem 3 and Ipod

Than the big question is how to get the IPOD software for the PUC of the BS3? The supported devices are handeld as a trade secret and the only information I get form my dealer is that they are able to request support for IR controlled 3rd party devices at B&O with a charge of 700 Euro to generate the IR code set.

Fantastic would be to get a list what has been done already and to share that IR code sets.

So IPOD has been done, I also heard Apple TV. Anything else?
