I almost forgot how good they were..

It's been a full 7 years since i last had some BeoLab 5's at home - but recently i thought i'd treat myself..

They replaced a pair of BeoLab 9's - which i was perfectly happy with (make no mistake!), and i set about re-running Steve at Soundsheavenly's new Gold Standard cables under the carpets last night.  Big job, lot of carpet..

Anyway - all was finished at about midnight last night, and today i listened to them properly with a glass of Chablis and some high quality music and....  WOW.

The one thing i noticed over and above the BeoLab 9 is the absolute, complete and utter effortless clarity of the BeoLab 5.  The sound is so true and natural you actually find yourself listening to the music without having to think about it.  That may sound strange, but you can really sit back and 'drink in' every single note.  When watching MTV HD you find yourself focusing totally on the screen as if you were really there.  They breathe effortlessly and never, ever struggle with any genre or volume.

Amazing speaker.  If you ever get chance to own a pair - go for it. Smile

    Hello Lee

Im envious.. though i do like my 9's... I just have so many hard surfaces in my living area they often sound a bit shrill. Listening to rubbish mp3's doesnt help either!!

Tell you what, when you have a half price sale on beolab 5's and free postage to Oz I'll buy a pair from you!!!!!!

    Hope you're well

    haha! ditto!

9's are mere speakers (and relatively average if you ask me)  can't be compared to 5's, wish i had a pair.

Ooops, Lee. You know you won't be able to get rid of them again ...

I listen to many different kinds of sound systems, in everything from regular living rooms to dedicated listening rooms, and the BeoLab 5s rank among the very best when it comes to the remarkable sound quality they are capable of.
Simple guidelines for BeoLab 5 bliss: Do set them up right - preferably in a symmetrical listening space, and where you can use the reflections from the side walls, for which they were designed. Don't put them right up against the back or side walls - they perform best when the side reflections are delayed slightly compared to the direct sound reaching you from the mid/tweeter drivers - ideally that requires some distance from the side walls.

In spite of having heard a lot of other sound systems, and having been impressed by many, I am hanging on to my BeoLab 5s forever - they are astonishingly good.

Correct.  Finances permitting, they're mine forever.  You never know what's round the corner in business though - apparently we have a huge recession coming in the UK coming, so nobody is immune to a downturn!

That said - the last 'recession' never affected us - so fingers crossed!

This is my first thought when I come back home after a journey or holidays. I have mine since four years now and when I`m home for a longer period I get used to them and I`ve been told by friends visiting me what great sound they produce.

BL5 would be the last Beo I would sell, I think...

I also agree that the BL5s were outstanding, but there is a "problem" with then when you sit them on flexible wooden flooring. When my BL5s arrived (second hand) they were clearly pre-configured and sounded amazing. A few monts later, I stupidly decided to re-configure and take an analysis of my sitting room. That really affected the performance of the BL5s and the bass, post re-configuration, was poor.

The BL9s, which do not need to adapt to your environment, are better in my apartment with wooden flooring. I had to sell the BL5s, although if i move to a different place, these would be top of the list for a future purchase.

I must admit that when I got my beolab 5 I was a little disappointed with the bass power, but once I got used to it I thought it was enoughSmile
