speakers to go with beomaster 3000

    hi folks!

we've  2 sets of speakers hooked up to the 3000. Both are unmarked and have been with us since the early 70's.

Since we used new caps supplied by  Martin for our other B&O amps & speakers we've REALLY noticed a difference , especially on an old 1400 with tape deck....

so now we're after better sound for the 3000 set-up .

one set of speakers is better sounding than the others which we'd like to replace with some nice B&O  floor speakers ...

the question is WHICH SPEAKERS would best suit the 3000  pls ?

    cheers

there's some sonab OA4 type 2's on ebay at the moment . Would they be any good? i notice impedance is approx 7 ohms so I am thinking not as all the other speakers are 4ohms apiece ... is that right?

    cheers

Hard to argue about the early single fret S45 or S45-2.

Readily available and at good prices... oh, and they sound fantastic!

The impedance really doesn't matter that much - 7 ohms will be fine. I cannot comment on the Sonab speakers though!

It depends what you want.  If you want sharp, pinpoint imaging and accuracy then they probably won't be ideal.   However, they do have an ability to work in almost any location in a room - positioning isn't as important was with the usual front radiating speakers.

I had a pair of beautiful Rosewood T&A Acoustics speakers that used the same design principle as the Sonabs (and look exactly like Sonabs) which I used with a Beocenter 1400 in a room that for a wide variety of reasons couldn't accommodate 'normal' speakers.  They were fine for 'semi-serious' listening and background music but not wholly satisfactory for 'proper' listening.

Given the choice, I'd probaly go for a pair of S45.2s, although if you want to have speakers from the same period as the BM3000, think about the 5702s (rare and will suffer from foam rot) or from a slightly later period, a pair of 3800s.
