    Beosystem 3 and DTS

I have recently upgraded to BS3 and when I was playing some DVDs today on my BC2...I noticed that I when I select DTS audio there was no sound!!! Dolby Digital worked fine but not DTS...I don't know why. This has not happened with my BS2 in the past...if anyone know what the problem is please let me know!!!

    Re: Beosystem 3 and DTS

Do you have an sp/dif cable beteen the dvd and the bs3? you need this to get dd5.1 or DTS, otherwise you will just be getting dolby prologic II.

Have you checked on the bs3 what sound codec you are getting? to do this play a dvd then press - menu, options, sound, sound system and you will see the input sound and the output sound displayed.

What's a sp/dif cable? I think the BC2 is connected to the BS3 via masterlink cable...

The sound system display DTS 5.1 but no sound is coming out...

    Hmm....

If the dolby digital works, the SPDIF cable is ok. Does the system display Dolby Digital in the sound menu ?

Curious: the active sound system is DTS, so the BS3 has "understood" that the stream is DTS...

if the system is displaying the input format, what does it tell you the output format is?

    Re: Beosystem 3 and DTS

Sounds a bit silly but are the speakers switched on? In my setup when I bring on my DVD1 the bs3 only brings on the center channel (ie speaker 1) apparently this is a prob with the dvd1 as i have one of the first versions. I then need to press speaker 5 to manually bring on all the speakers.

    Re: Beosystem 3 and DTS

If the BeoSystem 3 and BeoCenter 2 are only connected via MasterLink, then it won't work. You need an SP/DIF cable going between the two. This takes the form of a standard 'phono' lead, but actually carries digital signals. DTS (or indeed any proper form of surround sound) cannot travel down MasterLink cable, or Scart.

    Ok...so a bit of a correction...

When I select DTS...the sound system input is "mono/stereo" and output is still "Dolby prologic IIx Movie speaker 5" but no sound....but when I select dolby digital the surround sound works fine...and I'm sure the speakers are on coz the green light on my BL5s are on and I have simply changed the audio by pressing the red button during playback...SO THIS IS THE PROBLEM! SPOT ON!!!!

Regarding the sp/dif cable....I'm not sure whether it's there or not since everything was installed by B&O and hidden away...but I assumed it would be silly for them to not install that as well...No wonder the surround sound is not sounding as good as I thought...I'll let my installer know ASAP!

And make certain that your S/PDIF Coaxial Digital Audio cable is 75Ohms, with RCA at both ends.

So where does the spdif cable plug into on the BS3? There's so many AV source...2-6...The BC 2 is connected to the masterlink socket on the BS3...but what about the spdif?

conect to the digital in on a free input, then go to setup and tell the BS3 that this input is conected to a BC2

On the same AV port as the Scart or other video inputs are connected to for the BC2.

Thanks for everyone's response...I'll try to get this sorted asap...

This might be a stupid question...I assume that Dolby Digital will give a better sound quality that dolby prologic...and DTS should be better than Dolby Digital (I know this is controversial to some)...

And if you either connect a Playstation 3 or a Blu-ray player by hdmi to the BS3 and play a blu-ray movie you will get Uncompressed PCM 5.1 sound which is even better (much much better) than the DTS you get from your DVD .

Yes, it's pretty jaw droppingly good!

You'll also be all set for all the future formats, such as 7.1 surround sound etc.. (where you have extra speakers behind you).
