    Creating XML files with IRTrans Translator?

    I'm wondering if it's possible to create XML remote files without Lintronic, but with an IRTrans Translator connected to a PC. Does anyone knows if it's possible?

    If that's not possible, I'm looking for XML files for Philips TV (basic functions, it's a cathodic bedroom TV), and Sony VPL-HS60 videoprojector... Does anyone have those?

    You certainly can create a Beo5 XML file WITHOUT using the Lintronic box. The only reason that many people talk about the Lintronic box is because so many members have these units and so the Beoworld XML generator was created with that in mind.

    To make a 3rd party XML file you need:-

    1) The carrier Frequency the unit is using. This can easily be measured.

    2) The "Pulse" and "Pause" timings in microseconds of all the pulses which make up each command.

    So, any device, even very simple products which can provide the requirements in (2) above can be tailored to creating the result.

    In fact the Lintronics output which the XML Generator uses is just that, a set of timings for each command.

    I have not looked at the IRTrans Translator, but if it can provide the signal timings, then you can use it.

    Thanks Keith,

    I will try to find what datas it can provide... I'm not sure I can get the frequency (but for Philips & Sony its quite standard I think)

    For most Philips units they use either RC5, RC6, RCMM or NEC protocol. RC5,RC6 and RCMM use 36 Khz carrier Frequency and NEC uses the very common 38 Khz

    Current Sony products use 40 Khz.

    Timings do not always have to be captured, they can be converted from Pronto HEX codes found HERE and if you find suitable Pronto HEX codes then I can convert them for you.

    Also, for products which use RC5 or NEC protocol which have a device and command code, many manufacturers put the codes on their web site and there is an example HERE

    With regards to the Sony projector, I think you will need to capture the codes from the original remote

    Hmm... Seems to be a (little) incompatibility between IRTrans code and Beoworld's smileys!

    In case you can't read : the cocktail glass is [ D ], the devil is [ 6 ] and the smiley with finger down is [ N ]

    You can use the XML Generator to generate an RC5 file that contains all codes for your tv, then it is just a matter of writing down what codevalues controls a specific command on your tv, and rename the codevalues in the XML.

    Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but I have had a few days away.

    The captured codes with IR trans looks fine and I can see they are 14 bits long which is correct for standard RC5.

    For each command from left to right is the following:-

    Bit 1 is always a "1" and is the start bit

    Bit 2 defines if it is a 6 or 7 bit RC5 command also called extended RC5 -- When set commands available are from 0 to 63, when clear commands available are from 0 to 127. Also when clear (0), it is inverted to make command bit 7 (MSB)

    Bit 3 is the toggle bit and changes with each press of the same button. This is why you CANNOT use RAW hex commands in the Beo5 with RC5 Protocol. If you do only the first press of the same button would work until you pressed a different button.

    Bits 4 to 8 inclusive is the device address and if it is zero then the device would normally be a TV

    Bits 9 to 14 inclusive is the command.

    Later today I will make up an XML file for you to try.

    They are all Philips RC5 commands with a Carrier Frequency of 36 Khz

    I have created an XML file which you can download HERE and extract from the ZIP file to C:\ will put it automatically into the correct directory of the Beo5 Configuration Tool.

    All of the numbers are pre-assigned to the digits screen and all commands above not found on the screen are pre-assigned to the hard keys. Within the Beo5 Configuration Tool it is just a matter of drag-n-drop it into your configuration.

    Please confirm that all commands are working correctly..
