    Beovision 5 problem

    Hi everyone,

I've got a problem with my Beovision 5. It produces a high pitch humming noise, especially when it displays very bright images.
The more white there's in the picture, the louder the noise. It's not the speakers, but on the back of the television.

I've been told that it's the chassis that needs to be replaced, is this possible? If so, is there anyone who knows if this will be an expensive repair? Is it something I can do by myself? I only bought it recently, so it feels bad that it doesn't work the way it should.

I hope there are some people out there who can help me out!!

    Thanks in advance!

    Nicolas,

The problem you are describing is called "Vision on Sound" in the TV industry which does not happen very often in modern TV's but was very common in years gone by.

The cause is normally to be found in the IF stage where the combine sound and vision signal is split into its seperate components. You did not say, but I am assuming that this does NOT happen when using a STB. If it also happens with a STB, then the fault will be very different.

Unfortunately or fortunately depending how you look at it, all the IF stage these days are usually in one chip and therefore changing that chip and/or its associated components would almost certainly resolve the issue. HOWEVER many years ago B&O introduced field replacement units only, meaning component parts are are not changed by dealers only modules or chassis.

So, the short answer is the module or chassis will need to be changed by the B&O dealer if the problem is not using a STB. If you recently purchased this TV as a pre-owned unit without warranty, then it could be quite expensive.

Please confirm if this problem does NOT happen when using a STB and only happens with an internal DVB module ?

    Regards Keith....

    Hi Keith,

Thanks a lot for your reaction!
My problem does not only happen with an internal DVB module, but also when using a STB or another source. (B&O DVD1).

It could be the powersupply in your BeoVision 5. Bright pictures take up a lot of power, the powersupply is working hardest with these pictures and sometimes you hear the powersupply.

    Re: Beovision 5 problem

I have experienced (and still suffer from) the exact same problem with my MK1 BV5. I replaced the chassi appr. 3 years ago due to a faulty ML contact so I can confirm that this did not solve the problem. Have also heard about the potential power supply problem but since my technician let me know that the only solution would be to replace the screen I decided I would have to live with it. Would be very interesting to know if there is a more economic way to cure this problem. Seriously considering a second hand BV9 in the future but they are still a bit too pricy (at least in Sweden there te few ones that are for sale are announced for around 12-13.000 EUR).

    Please keep us updated.

    Regards,

    Emil

    Hi Emil,

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has this problem. I will keep you updated if an economic solution pops up!

    Best regards,

    Re: Beovision 5 problem

Indeed a really beautiful set the BV5. As regards the BV9 it seems they are for sale a bit more often in Denmark than in Sweden. And better prices as well. Also noticed that there are two sets at Lifestyle for sale even if do not know if the shipping costs and costs for changing the inbuilt DVB-T makes them a very economic choice...

Have not stumbled in into any second hand BV7-55 still though. And I do think I find it a little bit to big, at least if you - as I do - prefer the BL7-6 before the 7-4.

    I still have this problem...

The humming noise is located at the back of the tv. When you're behind it, in the top corner on the right...

Who has got a solution to get this sorted?

    Thanks!
