    New Mac Mini

    Dear All:

The new Mac Mini from Apple Computers now has an HDMI connector.  If connected to a BV 7 MkIII or IV, can it be controlled with Beo4 remote?

    Thanks,

Yes it can be controlled with the Beo 4 as it uses the same codes as the old mini.

The only thing that stops me from buying it is the possibility of HDCP implementation into the HDMI port.

If there is HDCP in the port, some contend cannot be played.

I believe there is multiple version of the Apple Remote in the STB. The one that I have does support fast scrolling but doesn't support the "long" push on the play button which is used on the ATV for stand by or genius or something.

Basic up down left right fast up and down plus play and menu works though. I am not sure if there is an updated STB version.

Are you sure about this?  Blu-Ray players have HDCP implementation in their HDMI ports as well, don't they?  Yet they play.  I'd be very surprised if the HDMI inputs of B&O video products didn't have proper HDCP support.

I am using my ATV through HDMI with my BV8, and it works even on Itunes rented videos that for sure are protected. I would think Mini Mac works just like that.

I took a look at one of them today at the Apple Store. It's beautiful with its aluminum casing.

The HDMI port, however, doesn't seem to make it any more useful than the old video adaptors did. The nature of the machine hasn't changed. It's still going to output either front-row or the desktop and does not have a blu-ray player. That's not to say that it isn't a clever set top box, but the HDMI isn't quite the exciting addition I first suspected.

If I'm missing an angle on this, pipe up.

I think the HDMI connection just makes it simpler to connect the mini to the vast majority of TVs instead of the separate audio/video....that's about it.

I don't understand this Trip. HDMI is just a connection method. The inclusion makes it easier to grab a cable and connect to your TV. You could install your own media center technology on the Mac Mini, use Front Row or use a wireless keyboard/mouse to show the desktop through your TV.

Pipe in: "The extra adapters were sort of extensive, added to the cable mess. The ones that can produce HDMI with digital sound and combine the video and audio out from the mini were only introduced recently I believe. Most only supported video and at least my BV8 does not have a digital audio in but can handle HDMI.
