Hi Guy. As far as I can make out, he got the acoustic lens from B&O, being a former employee.

Re: Make your own BeoLab Speakers!!!!!

Wow, thank you very much :) I did not think my speakers would find their way all over there to Beoworld :D

    About the sound:

At the moment, I use a vintage amplifier "RankArena" from 1975 with 2x15w output. But it still does a really good jobb at moderate volumes. The bass is incredible, it goes really deep i frequeny. The midrange is clear and the treble does a fine jobb to, and never get to sharp/edgy.

The BeoVox 3 :) using B&O`s acustic lens and treble. The woofers is peerless 5 1/4" (1 main + 2 slave) a little bigger then orginal. Like one wrote erlier, I wanted more Bass :) and I got it :D

I think I will upgrade to a BeoLink passive later, or a BeoSound 9300! what will be the best choise??

Ok, my English is not the best, but I think you will understand me just fine :) so if you have any questions I will try to answer the best I can.

    Best regards

Well Iwould have thought the amplifier in a Beocenter 8XXX/9XXX will be far superior to that of a Beolink Passive.

Actually I believe they are rather similar, with hybrid IC power stages... but given these alternatives, I'd decide based just on the looks which are of course very different!

Re: Make your own BeoLab Speakers!!!!!

Hi parasound & I would also like to extend my welcome to Beoworld. We love threads such as yours on hereSmile

As for choice of system I agree with Mika (tornedos) - it all depends on what floats your boat. Personally speaking I have always preferred the flat Beocenters over the Ouverture types. The Beocenter 8500 will offer best value for money & has all the connections you could wish for & is more versatile than the Ouverture types. Space is also a consideration as these obviously have a larger footprint. I have always loved the smooth gliding doors on the DC & tape decks of the Beocenters.

Re: Make your own BeoLab Speakers!!!!!

    Thanks for the welcome Chris!

And thanks for all the opinons :)

I have always thought that the CD sound better in the Ouverture, mayby I`m wrong about that?? Yes, the conections are far superior on BC 8/9xxx, but the lack of MasterLink is a little bit sad :/ and space is not a problem :) And I agree, the gliding doors are like magic, very smooth :)

I have not decide if I should use my MX 4002 in the lounge, I want the lounge to be a TV free zone, but the mx is so small and so beautiful  Embarrassed  Thats one of the reasons way I have been thinking to use a ouverture "masterlink" in the lounge :)

Hmm, I think I will go for a BeoCenter 8/9xxx series anyway Big Smile I have always fancy the BC 8/9xxx but newer own one!

    Thank you all

If you want to do linking, remember that the Beocenter 8000 is (purposedly) crippled in this respect... No Powerlink, no MCL (3-pin) speaker connectors and the audio AUX link probably limited by software. I have one, and it's a great stand alone product, though!

I believe all the others of this series could be Masterlinked to your MX4002 with a converter box (type 1611?). Not sure about BC9000, as it is quite a bit older.

I'm pretty sure Craig linked a BC9000 to a BV3 via 1611 so it may well be possible. Personally I would recommend to 8500 or 9500 over a 9000 - much less prone to CD laser failure.

The 9300 and Ouverture are much the same animal - with the 9300 having a passive amplifier built in. The CD on the 9500 would be my choice too using the TDA 1541 DAC.

I confess to not being that impressed with the passive amplifiers in the 9000 type Beocenters and the Beolink passive. If you can find them, a Beolab 200 is the way to go. Or a Beomaster 7000 - much better dynamics than the 9500. I really noticed this when I changed my system to a BC2 from a 7000 system. the link rooms are nothing like as dynamic - very nearly changed back!!

Re: Make your own BeoLab Speakers!!!!!

Like Peter I have to admit to being unimpressed with the passive amp or the amp in the BC9XXX series other than they do a job and seem reliable.

Where I disagree with Peter is regarding the DAC. It would appear that as long as it is there and works, I can't tell the difference.

However, I also am not a lover of the iconic Beolab Penta that you all seem to find so impressive, so you might choose to ignore my opinions.

The decision, as they say, is yours and they are your ears that will be doing the listening, not ours!!

    Regards Graham

Re: Make your own BeoLab Speakers!!!!!

These things are always a labour of love.  In the case of most DIY projects, if you worked extra hours equal to how long you spend building something, you could buy it, except that's not *why* we do it.  I've spent weeks of my life building a bespoke shelving system, wardrobe etc, and I could have gotten the same effect if I'd worked late hours for extra pay, but the thing that I, and nobody else, gets is the joy of seeing something I made, every time I reach for a book off the shelf.

    Great project, respect due

Re: Make your own BeoLab Speakers!!!!!

Okey, so I should beware of BC9000 if I understand this right?

I am only familiar to the later models (BS ouverture, BS 2300, BS 3000, and so on) just becourse I have sold them before, when I was a B&O salesman.

I have seen the older models of course, but never own one :) I really like the design on the BC 8/9xxx

Time to look at the second-hand market once more :)

Re: Make your own BeoLab Speakers!!!!!

    Hi Peter!

To find BeoLab 200 here in Sweden are totally impossible, And if I should do, there are always a BeoVox Penta on top of it ;)

I once own a BeoLab Penta MK3, but I sold them for the BeoLab 8000 a year ago. i regret this today, but at the time I needed the space, and the Penta was to big. I like the sound i BL Penta, the bass was big and mighty :)

About the BeoMaster, I cant really stand the design, its not B&O. But they do sound good. It will be a BC 8500/9500 for me. I am also looking for a pair of Penta MK3 (again), becourse now I have all the space I need :D In other words, a BeoLab 200 with topping ;)
