Beomaster 3000-2 up to 104 or 108 Mhz?

Here it says up to 108 Mhz, but on the photos you can see just 104 Mhz, I once had one of these, but I cannot remember.... As I want one now for a vintage system I want to make sure I can listen to my favorite radio station ;-)

Asked a guy selling a Beomaster 3000-2 on ebay and he said up to 104 Mhz only.

    Are there different types?

I believe US versions were up to 108 hz while the European version was only 104. Something about police radios using that range in the '60's.

I don't quite buy that police radio theory, as already BM900 had the full range. BM4400 goes up to 108 as well!

The one listed on ebay was 110 volt, so us version, going up to 104 Mhz only.

    Any other comment?

I live in Denmark and have a BM 3000-2. It's only up to 104 Mhz. It is the same on my BM 901. The BM 1500 that replaced the 901 goes up to 108 Mhz -and so does all later models from the mid 70's and on.

And my Beomaster 5000 tuner also goes up to 108 in the 60s! The most wasteful tuning scale has to be the 3400 though. This has a huge tuning scale that only goes to 104!!

Oh yes, Beomaster 1000 (at least the black key export version) goes to 108 as well. So does Beolit 1000, but Beolit 707 ends at 104. Seems like the 104-108 range was omitted just in the early '70s.

Many of our domestic products in the '60s stopped already at 100 MHz - no need as there simply weren't any transmitters above it. As a plus, manual tuning is easier if the scale isn't quite as dense... cf. the presets of the 3000-4000-4400 series, they are annoying enough at 88-104! Big Smile

BM 3000 1969 - 1975   ok, just learned it is up to 104 only..., so Beoworld data is not correct (whom to ask to correct it?)

    BM 4000 1972 - 1977  104 only, ok, Beoworld data is right

BM 4400 1977 - 1980  this should be up to 108, I just found a photo of it.... Mika, do you have a different one?

I have leased my 4400 to a friend, but I'm absolutely sure that one goes to 108 MHz. I bought it from Germany BTW.

The different versions of the "same" models seem to bring no end of surprises though!

Re: Beomaster 3000-2 up to 104 or 108 Mhz?

    Hello everyone,

regarding to my service manual there were indeed BM3000 (and 3000-2) models with 104 and 108MHz.

    It says:

    - "Type 2402 up to and including series 3: 87.5 - 108 MHz"

    - "Type 2402 up to and including series 4: 87.5 - 104 MHz"

    which is nonsens by itself.

    In German it's:

"bis und einschl. Serie 3: 108 MHz"

"ab und einschl. Serie 4:  104MHz" (which translates as "beginning with series 4", so it should say "up from and including series 4" in the english part)

which seems to make better sense.

But I've never seen a 108 MHz-model up to now.

There's a spare part front scale with 104 and anotherone with 108 MHz printing.

The one I own is a 104 MHz.

In the early "valve" days of FM ("UKW") there were only radios up to 100MHz - my Father's Kuba e.g.

Later ones had 104; that was extended to 108 somewhere in the 70'es I think.

It had something to do with the frequencies allowed to transmit.

This holds true for Germany - not sure about UK or USA.

    Greetings,

       Gunther

I have had a look at the originally published spec and it appears that ALL versions ending "-2" went to 108 Mhz

There were apparently three (3) versions as follows:-

    • 3000-2 with Type number 2402 -- European Version
    • 3000-2 with Type number 2404 -- Later European Version
    • 3000-2 with Type number 2405 -- US Version

    Regards Keith....

So, now I got two of these right now - and see the service manual (german text) is right:

    Just to complete this information.
