    What's the general opinion on

the future desire level of the 9000/9500/9300  vs.  4500    systems????

I've heard that once the CD section of the 9000/9500/93000 goes down it's not fixable...??

    Thanks Keith

They are essentially the same system. I would have (and indeed do) the 9500. The CD unit is no longer available. If the laser goes, I am afraid it is essentially curtains - unless you know someone!

I've never known of an actual laser go faulty on any of these systems, it has always been another component associated with the CD mechanism and so far all bar one have been fixable by me personally. I did have one cd unit that I couldn't fix but it was a useful donor and I skipped the rest of it.

You would indeed be unlucky to buy one that couldn't be fixed.

I think you have been fortunate! A friend of mine has a little stash of said lasers because he has seen quite a few faulty. The CD50 and CDX seem indestructible by comparison! I have only had one faulty - in a CD4500 - but that was when a new laser was available. However you obviously see far more than me!

When I get one that I can't fix I'll let you know. I've got two 9000's to do today so you have a fair chance of seeing me eat humble pie!

I have every confidence in you! What you are really saying is that many units are taken to service departments and the laser is blamed. I think this stems from the fact that most B&O these days is serviced by replacing modules and some of the basic skills are being lost. Unfortunately this becoming much more common with a few shining exceptions.

I am on the lookout for a cheap 4500 cd just in case mine was to go but I would not let this put me off buying one of the above and thats the beauty of ebay! something will come up!
