Have recapped the board and on power up the unit seems to focus but after a matter of a couple of second the disc spins down ... on one occasion it did look to get a little further (still no audio) but once in 100 tries is not progress!

I have checked supplies and connections and all else seems to be ok.

Well - I'm not an expert on this -but in this forum there is a thread about Beogram CD 5500-6500-7000. I think it's the same CD-unit. Search for that -I think it will be helpfull.
