Is Beovision 7-55 too big for my livingroom?

    Hi guys,

I have today a BV 7-40. My room is 4 meter x 5 meter (20 m2). I have the TV and sofa along the longside-walls.

I have 3 meter from the sofa to the TV (viewing distance). Is the 7-55 too large for this size of room? I really want to buy the 7-55 to get a bigger screen but the TV-set (7-55) is very big. I have also Beolab 5 at frontspeakers and Beolab 4000 as rear-speakers.

Please advice me! Do you think this TV will dominate the room too much? Or should I buy it?

    Regards
    Martin

I have a similar viewing distance and think it's great for watching tv. My only complaint is that I tend now to look first for HD programmes to watch (or DVD) because standard definition shows a lack of detail.

My wife thinks it's too big, but what does she know!!

And i thought i was the only 'HD Snob' here..  Laughing

I must confess, i always scan the HD channels first too.  I sometimes watch Luxe TV HD even when i'm not interested in how cheese is made using age old traditions, or how wonderful a hotel in a place i could never afford to visit is..

If you dont look at the size of the picture (regarding viewing distance) and instead think of how large the TV-set would look in my livingroom. Do you think it will look to clumsy or will it be great?

As I said above, the room size is 4 meter x 5 meter and I have the sofa and the TV (and Beolab 5) at the longside-walls. Except for the sofa and a table to the sofa, I dont have much furniture besides the B&O-stuff.

Our room is smaller then yours and we have a 55 ordered. My wife thinks the 40 we have now is too small. I think it would look fine in a room the size of yours.

Re: Is Beovision 7-55 too big for my livingroom?

With no doubt the BV7-55 is a huge set! I have a BV4-50 wall mounted with two BL5 and a BL7.4 in 4 by 3,60 m room (BV4 at the short wall) and considering to switch to the BV7. I have a dedicated media room so the size is not an issue, but with 5 m you should be OK!

My viewing distance is roughly 3,60 and even with SD signals the BV4-50 could be a little bit bigger....

The BV7 is a huge investment and hopfully your dealer will offer you a homedemo to convince you to make the right decission.

Seems to me that it is quite large (140.8cm x 87.5cm x 18.4cm) especially if you do not have a dedicated room.  Pure from the perspective whether your room/viewing distance could handle the size for HD content, I would say yes, for SD not. However see for yourself: http://myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancemetric.html

It is hard to obtain a good impression without the actual device in your room, so I would follow the suggestion from Kawo and ask for a demo at home before making a decision.

[to be honest: I think it is a lovely set, however to large for your room]

Re: Is Beovision 7-55 too big for my livingroom?

I did own the Beovision 7.40 and now I own the Beovision 7.55. I also have a room that is not quite bick. My viewing distance is about 3 meter. It was amusing to see the 7.40 and the 7.55 in my room together. The 7.55 looks huge besite the 7.40Smile

    My recommendation is : Buy!

    I also own 2 beolab 9 and 2 beolab 8000

    It is a great pleasure!

    sorry for my Englisch

    I

I have enjoyed the stunning picture of the BV 7-55 for about two months but still haven't got used to the huge size of the tv. It just domitates the room!

I used to have a BV 7-40 which suited the size of the room better but the tv was of the first generation and the picture was really poor compared with today's tvs.

My livingroom size is 5x6 meters and the viewing distance is about 3 meters.

Attached are pics pic of my old and new setup. I hope this pair of pics helps you!

    Hi guys,

Thank you for your advice. I think I will buy the 7-55!. It will look huge, but If you have a great intrerest in Homecinema, it should be okey to have have a huge TV-set. But if you just dont are a homecinema-entusiast maybe the 7-40 is the right TV.

It is the same with cars. If you just use your car to take you from A to B it is enough with a ordinary Volvo or Skoda maybe. But if you love cars, it is okey to buy a large Mercedes or BMW I think.

    Have a nice evening!

Re: Is Beovision 7-55 too big for my livingroom?

I think there's a chance it will look grotesquely too big in a room that small, with Beolab 5's.

But please, send us a picture of your room! :)

I'm personally dumbfounded that your buying decision (for a TV that costs as much as a small island) is in our hands

    Hi,

My buying decision is of course NOT in your hands. I just want some advice regarding this issue. And I have got it and are pleased with it!

By the way, I will order it with high stand and with Beolab 10 (need a special bracket for that speaker). Beolab 7.6 make this TV very clumsy with high stand, dont you think?

it is close to 15 feet wide and 17 feet long. The TV goes on the wall goes on the side that is 15 feet wide. Also, the back of the room, behind where we sit, is open to a breakfast area and the kitchen.  I will try to post a couple of pictures.

I bought it at Barcelona more than ten years ago.

I'll check if the shop still exists.

spent an hour in a store watching Avatar blue-ray on a 55 at around 3 metres viewing distance

    wonderful clarity

as an aside the sound from the movie was disappointing ,,,,

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

Elephant! What do you mean Avatar was disappointing.!@#@#$@#   lol.

I watched it on Friday at home on BluRay and it would be one of the best movies ever.  Great story, good vs evil, the underdog.  It was an awesome movie. :-)

I actually think the movie is great in all the dimensions you mention.

We first saw it in IMAX 3D and I am sorry to say that the 7-55 could not compete with that experience.

What surprised me in the store was how "weak" the surround sound seemed (rears were 6000s, but the was a Beolab 2) ... so much so that I fiddled with [LIST] [SPEAKER] 5 to check what was "wrong".
