    Beosound 3200 broken down

My Beosound 3200 has seized up and will not even switch on.  The green light is on but the doors do not open and, if I open them manually, none of the buttons work.  There was no event which would have cause this - not dropped or excessive temperatures.  I took it to my local b&o store and they said the computer has broken and will cost 300 to 400 to replace.  It is only 5 years old.  Has anything similar happened to your 3200 and if so how was it resolved?  Any suggestions for how to resolve?  Thanks in advance.

Take it to another dealer. The "computer has broken" is not a sensible reason to give.

You have not helped yourself either!

We don't know where you are so "it will cost 300 to 400 to replace" does not mean a lot. Is that UK Pounds, Danish Kroner, US dollars or Yen or what???

    Regards Graham

That sounds like a lot of money.

Was this response as a result of a quotation from their service department or just a "salesmans bluff" to get you to replace the 3200?

If it were mine, I would pay for a report from qualified service people. It may cost an hour labour time but at least it should be accurate and will give you a much better idea of what will need to be replaced and the likely cost. You can then make a decision and give us a better idea.

Not sure - I had to chase after dropping off the unit a week before and the salesman said an engineer was in later and would call back.  They called back with this vague price later - (inc VAT, labour?).  No mention of an upgrade so unlikely to be part of a salesmans bluff.  Do you know where I get access to a qualified service person?

Through the dealer if they have an in house department or yellow pages if they use a third party contractor.

    Where are you?

Near Manchester UK.  Think I will pick the unit up and try a different store.
