    Speaker 4?

    Hi folks.

I have BL6000s and 8000s connected to my BV3-32. I was just wondering whether people use the Speaker 4 option much, or at all? At the risk of sounding like a muppet, I am not entirely sure when it is best to switch to Speaker 4 mode (except when listening to music).

    Any thoughts welcome.

    Thanks.

    C

    Re: Speaker 4?

That's the only time I use it. .for music.

It seems to amplify the bass in the front speakers.

I'm ready for something new that I actually want to buy!

I think it is also good when you have stereo sound and not 5.1 coming from the program you are watching. It might be just my feeling though...

    Re: Speaker 4?

I use speaker 4 in addition both for music and regular TV. Sometimes in situations where you don't want to turn up sound level too much, the "fullness" of sound with speaker 4 helps...

It is nice for a small gathering... eliminates some of the directionality, leaving an almost muzak-like background.

So if i may ask....if some of you are watching a normal stereo TV program and you don;t use Speaker 4, what do you use?

Speaker 3 or 5? Because 5 i think is a mess (almost no sound from rears).

I often use speaker 2. I find it a much fuller sound than 3 and spkr 3 doesn't give that much of a boost to the centre channel. I use spkr 4 for sports program as it gives an impression of the crowd in the stadium.

Thanks for the replies. Good to hear your thoughts.

Does anyone find themselves altering the individual speaker sound levels on a regular basis? I find that on some programmes and films, the music is deafening but the speech is very quiet so I have to adjust the front two speakers to a lower setting, and then other programmes vary. Maybe it is just how sound is originally recorded for each programme, I don't know.

I used to.  I think it all started with BBC Planet earth.  Beautiful sound mixing but the center speaker narration always seemed extremely weak so I thought something might be wrong with my levels.  Later I ended up adjusting them the other way when I discovered that lowering Left and Right seemed to boost bass in the center.  At this time I had a BS3 with BL2, BL3s and BL7.4 center.

I've recently switched to a BL10 for center and for some reason that seemed to balance the system alot more.  I know it's virtually identical to the 7.4 so the only thing I can attribute it to is the programming on the BS3 with that speaker.

    Re: Speaker 4?

Just found these good posting regarding speaker adjustment.

Because I`ve just installed my rear speakers (setup: BV8-40; front BL9, rear BL4000), I`d like to know how you B&O addicted listen to the music and to the telly.

audio: Speaker 2 if prefered traditional stereo sound and speaker 4 if someone would like to receive 2 x 2 stereo plus the "turbo" for the front speakers (I think the stystem directs more input to the speaker in mode speaker 4 than in speaker 2).

video: Speaker 5, but somebody will not receive much output from the rears. If you use speaker 3, you will not benifit from the rears, if someone uses speaker 4, the center is 100% out of order. So anyone of you guys listening in speaker 4?

    Your votes please.

    Re: Speaker 4?

Yeah, your right. I have the same setup: BV3-32, BL8000 and BL6000, and also a Canton ASF75 SC Subwoofer hidden under the sofa.

I use Speaker 4 also a lot with concert videos. Even if most of them are recorded with surround 5.1, I dont think the sound comes out as well as it does in the Speaker 4 mode. For sure the surround mode works with Speaker 5, but I find most of the time that even live music is more enjoyable in Speaker 4 mode (studio recordings for sure does).. Maybe it has something to do with the BL8000/6000 speakers.. I also have a AV9000 in my bedroom with BL3000/5000 connected and I find that they give a better feeling of the room and space in the surround mode. Much more 3 dimensional sound in my opinion. ( could be the shape of the room )

Is there anyone else experiencing the combination of BL5000/3000 better as surround setup than BL8000/6000 ?

Or is it just me, or my room configuration that makes me think so..?

    /Peter
