    Help needed with Beocenter 3300

    Hi all,

I am new to the forum. Glad I found it Yes - thumbs up.

I have a Beocenter 3300 with S75 speakers, which my parents bought in 1979. The system hasn't been used in 20 years, although my mother bought an mmc20s in the late nineties to replace the cartridge which had been broken since the late eighties (!).

First time I powered it up, only the lights went on. I tried to play a record, but there was no sound. Radio dito. Then, on second try, the record played beautifully. I tried two more records and everything seemed fine. I went on to the fourth record, and again, no sound at all. Radio doesn't do anything either, even no static. Radio lights are on though.

Speakers are fine, I tried them on another amplifier.

Anybody in a similar situation? Thanks in advance!

Re: Help needed with Beocenter 3300

    Welcome to Beoworld !

First thing would be to replace the capacitors in the power supply module, especially the ones
on the small center board. It's very common to see these fail by now and any ripple and/or
instability here will keep the tuner silent. A capacitor kit exists for this model.

Thanks for your reply Martin. Of course I was hoping for an easier solution, but I should have known better Smile. I am a beginner when it comes to schemes, soldering and stuff, so I'll leave that to someone else.

Depending on your geographic location, a Beoworld'er with the needed skills and tools could easily be near you.

Re: Help needed with Beocenter 3300

If you are near South Limburg (Netherlands) I can have a look at it for you.  I have restored a couple of Beomaster 2200 which are the same as your Beocenter minus the record deck.  This B&O model is well made and worth restoring...

Well, 4 months later and I finally got to try headphones: they do work, although a bit crackling, but that could be due to the quality of the headphones/plug.
