    Beomaster 900K

I have a Beomaster 900K from the late 60's.  This is the version with the built in 6x4" speakers.  Does anyone know where I might find replacements for the speakers?  They are marked Svenska Hogtalare Fabriken AB Number 0-4645 Y K  3.2 Ohm 640.

I replaced the ones on mine with these: http://www.visaton.de/de/car_hifi/koax/dx4x6p_4.html

Sounds great (better than before anyway Stick out tongue) and they weren't that expensive (20€ off eBay).

You should be able to use any 4x6 car speakers - they usually are 4Ω, but that doesn't really matter (a bit quieter if at all).

    Hello again

I am having difficulty in locating these speakers in the UK - even on ebay.  On the German ebay I can locate many Visaton speakers but cant see this one.  In the UK car shops most speakers are rated at 120W+.  Your lower power 4ohm option seems better.  Could you possibly send me a link to an advertiser (in Germany) that I could source from?

Hey jdbrown!  Might be worth having a look down your local car scrapyard!
Speaker drivers from cars never turn up on eBay, and car breakers would probably charge you little or nothing for them!

Never even thought about that - but it's a good idea if you need to find some cheap ones. But unfortunately - at least as far as I know -  6x4 speakers are not that common…….

There are some for sale on eBay UK, though not really cheap: Link

As I said, you can use any matching speakers. I only used Visaton ones as these are easy to find over here.

If you only want to get the Beomaster playing, you might fabricate "adapter plates" from veneer or something, and use 4" round speakers. Should not show on the outside, and completely reversible if you happen to find more suitable speakers some day.

    Re: Beomaster 900K

Hello again.  I am only just now getting round to doing this job.  I have looked at a number of other car speakers such as JVC and Pioneer but the sizes vary.  Because I know that you have used these successfully in your Beomaster I am inclined to go for the Visaton speakers which can be sourced in UK for £32.50 per pair.  Can you confirm whether, because of the depth of the speaker surround, did you have to fix the new ones to the rear of the cabinet rather than the front as the originals were fitted?

From the same supplier there is also a Visaton FR9.15 speaker which is cheaper and slimmer but has a power rating of 15w as opposed to 30w for the speakers you used.  Do you find the power rating of your DX 4x6 P an ideal match for the Beomaster?

They are fixed to the front just like the old ones, no problem sizewise. But I had to drill new screw holes as the old ones didn't match.

I'm sure a power rating of 15W will be fine as well, the BM won't even get close to that.

I have one spare speaker from a scrapped BM900. The same as you asked for in the first post. Its not perfect, has a couple of small tears in it but it does work. Its yours for the postage costs if you want it.
