    Beogram 5005 problems...

    Hi guys,

I've got an annoying problem wit my Beogram and wondered if anyone else had ever experience his?

It's started turning itself and my Beomaster 5500 off about 4 minutes into a record.

It used to do this if it hadn't been used in a few weeks (if I was off on holiday etc) but would return to normal after a bit of persistent record playing...

Maybe it's just a sign that Ive been busy and haven't been turning it on enough...

Also does anyone know of of a good B&O repair shop in the US? Preferably i the south east?

    Thanks

    Kris

    Hey Kris!

I was wondering what happened to you! Always nice to find someone near me!

I'm the fellow that gave you the BC5000 about 2 years ago...

Someone will prob be along to help soon w/ the BG.

RE: Service... You are in luck! You are about an hour away from B&o's regional service specialist.

Modular Electronics in Roswell, GA. Ask for Benny, highly recommended!

    Awesome! Thanks for that!

And thanks again for that BC5000. It worked out great! It was eventually replaced with a BC5500. I still have it though, just not in use at the moment!

Think I might actually finally check out the B&O shop in Atlanta this weekend! Not that can afford any of the newer stuff!

    Thanks!

Actually it seems that it's my Beomaster... it's been turning off even when I use my ipod...

Does it get unusually hot? Most probably this is the classic problem of the idle current setup trimpots being shot. They do that with old age, then the power amp eats too much current, and the protection circuits shut the Beomaster down before there's a change of more damage.

If this is the cause, it is a relatively easy and quick fix with cheap spare parts for someone who knows what he's doing. Should be no problem for the guy Jeff already recommended Smile

Oh, I hadn't noticed whether it got hot or not...

maybe that's it. I 'll take it to that guy this month to see if he can fix.

Thanks for all of your help guys.

You may have the sticky piston problem - I've seen that a few times in these caused sudden shutoffs.

The piston needs to be rebuilt.

This is a problem common to the whole range of the Type 59xx turntables.

Just emailed Benny about my cartridge.  He offers MMCx rebuilds.  Have not stumbled upon anyone having used this service, only Axel's in Germany.  Has anyone used Benny to repair an MMC4?

    Current primary listening:  SMMC20EN -> BG4002 -> BM4000 -> Beovox M70
