I've been told these are B%O speakers...please identify

I've been told these are B%O speakers, they were recovered from a recording studio...can someone identify them for me. See images...

They are pictured standing in front of a pair of Genelec studio monitors.

    Thanks in anticipation.

Those are Beolab 5000s. Very sought after speakers!

Those are Beolab 5000 active speakers.

Try to rescue them before they are hopelessly scratched, and they will be worth quite a bit...

Thanks for the info, I'll place them somewhere safe first thing tomorrow.

They were part of a recording studio which was removed in an insurance claim...apparently they were in working order prior to removal. Any ideas on what they may be worth for quick sale?

    Condition is everything - £1000 - £1200 for a mint pair.

As a secondhand Bang & Olufsen dealer (ahem, sorry 'pre-owned') i can indeed confirm these are rare speakers.  In Mint Condition, which really means they should be 'as new' you may get between £1000-1500 depending on who is around at the time you want to sell them.

Contrary to popular belief though, they are not snapped up by buyers if they're advertised at top money (£1500+).  Eventually they will find a buyer of course if they're mint, but if you want to move them on quickly i'd recommend £1000 as the asking price. They should bounce away at that money in double time if that's what you need.

Blue speaker cloth/frets are the most desirable - grey after that, but it's not a case of one will sell and the other won't.  However, if you can keep them - they sound great and look amazing. They won't ever go down in value either.

    Just my ramblings though..  Laughing

The condition of the aluminium panels is paramount. After that it's the speaker cloths and amp housings, then the outer edges.

Dont worry if the alu panels are totally mint but the words 'BANG & OLUFSEN' are messy either - these are just transfers (most people think they are etched on) and can be made up by a good signwriter.

Errr...no...they are obviously not mint, but the photos I took were very dark and have been heavily adjusted in Photoshop, so they look a worse that they actually are. Whatever I get for them will be a bonus as they were part of a demo recording studio I bought last week, when the kit arrived these did too, I was not even aware they were part of the lot.

Mark...I dont understand your comment..."these are near mint and he has tried twice to sell them with no luck"...are you referring to me? I only found out what they were last night so I don't understand what you are saying...and they are not near mint as far as I can see.

I think he is trying to get a bargain from you by offering £200. If you stuck those speakers you have found on to ebay with a £5-600 buy it now, some nice pictures and a good clean up they would, i expect, sell. As long as the amplifier section works. Condition of the metal panels is very important and judging by the pictures they will have scratches or even tiny dents. £5-600 and they would sell fine though.

Thanks for the advice Beaker...I'm going to take a good look at them over the weekend, clean them up and hopefully test them...I'll report back.

If they are in good overall condition but not mint then the going rate on eBay seems to be somewhere in the £500-700 region depending on overall condition. They would need to be in close to perfect conditon to fetch something in the £1000+ range.

Oh it's nice to see there are people on here to keep us informed... good on ya Beaker...

Would you consider keeping them if they work? Who knows you might really like them and find a good use for them! They're stunning speakers. Personally haven't heard them, but people have said very good things about them.

I'm sorry to have to disagree with the owner of the site but those "alu panels" are actually stainless steel!!

The more I read about these speakers the more I am thinking about keeping them. It's been a long time since I had a good home setup...what with family, kids and all that. A question though...will a standard amp work with these speakers or will I need to invest in a specialist amp? At the moment I have a Denon amp and Mission speakers.

If they are Beolab's then they're active speakers and have the amps built in.

    Read HERE

If driven from a B&O source the displays will indicate system related info.

They can be driven from a non-B&O source (at line level) but the digital info to the displays will be missing.

If your current amp has a pre-amp output with controlled volume, you can connect these directly to that (the speakers have a line level RCA input which has automatic power on/off with signal sense). If not, you will need to construct / buy attenuated adapter cables to drop the speaker outputs of your amp to line level.

With a suitable B&O amp you would have the benefit of the displays on the speakers working, they are quite funky.
