    New Headphones Anyone?

Just found these. Thet're not bad looking (in a retro sort of way), has anyone heard them ?

No, this is not yet available in the location where I live.  But I find this is already available in UK online Apple Store at GBP250.  It has received very good comments based on online reviews.

I am very tempted! Been considering buying a pair of high-end headphones for a while and the reviews I have seem so far are very complimentary. Trouble is I have the self-knowledge to know I would end up spending a fortune on a dedicated amp to go with them making it quite an investment overall!

    Re: New Headphones Anyone?

I just asked B&W to send me a test set... They replied that there is a few people on the waiting list, but I should receive the P5 soon. I will tell you when I got (and try) it!

    Re: New Headphones Anyone?

I came across these a few months ago I think. I checked all my local B&W dealers, nobody had them. But all spoke well of the P5.

Sorry Puncher, I think they look terrible, but yes, retro for sure.

Oooo. Me like 70s retro styling :D

Why don't B&O knock out some 'new' U70s a la the 'new' Beetle or 'new' Mini?

How about an entire "Classic Series"?

No software, no BS... just plug and play!

Would sell like hotcakes! IMHO, of course!

Do you think it would be received in a similar way? Apart from the B&O aficianado?

    Re: New Headphones Anyone?

I think that it would sell really well... but only among Beoworlders, who represents a small niche of B&O customers...

Well the products wouldn't have huge development times, relatively speaking of course. It would also revive the seperates and stackables - people could pick and choose what they want... Okay probably going too far Laughing

There is no reason that B&O could not produce a product like the P5.

If they could get the product right it would be a great way of introducing people to the brand.

Agree - a good set of fullsize headphones would be a great introduction and could also "say" something about the company's core product and design/technology.

I'd certainly rather be given something like that than a Beotime!

Yep - £275 for a remote and bog-standard LCD alarm/flute combo?? No thanks.

£275 for some retro styled full-sized headphones that hit the spot?? Yes please!

    Re: New Headphones Anyone?

    I've finished testing the B&W P5 : disappointing Erm

The sound is too flat, too bassy, not natural. Even a friend who has B&W at home didn't like the sound of the P5...

They seem to have a new product coming that may be better (there is a picture of an unidentified headphone on the P5 brochure), so until then, I will keep my Atomic Floyd (and B&O... Just in case!)

That's a shame. I think I will stick with Sennheisers!

I was about to buy a pair and then I made the mistake of listening to them!

That being said, the industrial design on these is fantastic! I particularly like the little cylinder where the cups can rotate. Very well executed.

    Re: New Headphones Anyone?

I really wish B&O would produce some a noise-cancelling version of the A8. It's still one of the best in-ears I've listened to, but doesn't really offer enough isolation to make them usable when walking next to a noisy road. I still use mine all the time, and they're about 5-6 years old now!

And yes, the B&W P5s are disappointing to say the least. B&W have launched some rather poor sounding speakers lately - the Zeppelin (eugh!), the MM-1 (better, but still not good!) and the 685 (the 686 is a completely different story). I do think they're kinda being lead by marketing/accountants more than ever at the moment, and it's affected the quality of their products.

Everytime I walk into the apple store I play with the zepplin and I have to say I've never been dissapointed by it. There is quite a lot of bass, but I think it is well executed. Very, very rich output.
