    Hello from Australia

    Hi guys,

Im new here to the forum from Melbourne Australia. I've been an avid B&O follower most of my life and for the past year I have been watching ebay like a Hawk and have just made two purchases.

The first a mint condition Beocenter 8500 with original Beovox 50 speakers.

The second is a mint condition Beosystem 4500 complete with Beogram and Beolab 5000 wall mounted speakers. The whole system is like brand new with only the beogram needing a new stylis. It was a one owner with all the original brochures, purchase docket, manuals etc..

I picked both of them up for an absolute steal. Values in Aus seem to be down when comparing to some of the prices achieved in North America and Europe.

Never understood that phrase. How comparison to a canine's appendages can be considered complimentary is beyond me.

Leaving that aside however, I think the 4500 system is aguably the most beautifully designed system ever produced by B&O.

'Timeless design' is an often overused phrase but in this case I think it's entirely applicable and deserved.

    Re: Hello from Australia

Can anyone tell me what the best remote control would be for the 4500? It's the only thing it is missing.

Welcome to BeoWorld... Am I still allowed to say that? Laughing

    Hmmm...

BL1000 or Beo4 are both excellent... but if your BM is running SW >=2.1 then BL5000 or BL7000 are hard to overlook!

The 7000 would be a spectacular match to your very beautiful system!

After owing a Besystem 3000 , I have  always wanted to own  BS 4500 and still want it.( An iconic - Jacob Jensen design) I own the Beocentre 2 , which is also an icon of design ( David Lewis) I live in hope that one day I can buy , like you find Beosystem 4500, in the same pristine conditon.

Very nice!!! Yes - thumbs up

If you need a remote, drop me a line. I've got either a Beolink 1000 (the remote that originally came with that system) or a Beo4 that I can sell to you. I'm in Melbourne too!

    Jonathan

Congrats and welcome from me too

On the weekend the missus and I drove past the R-Bar in Port Melbourne and we both remarked that we need to have another BeoPhile Melbournian dinner.

The last Melbourne get-together we had was November 2008 so I think we are well overdue.

Should we have another event in say 2 months time ?

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

    Re: Hello from Australia

Congrats on the acquisition and welcome to a select community in Melbourne.

On the weekend my wife and I drove past the R-Bar in Port Melbourne which was where the first Melbourne B&O fans' dinner was held.  And we both agreed that it was about time we should have another event.

Seeing as the last one was November 2008 at B&O Camberwell I am sure most of us would agree that such an event is now overdue.

If fellow Melbournians are in agreement, should we try to organise one for some time in May ... June ... July ?

I could be very interested in a Beolink 5000. I had initially planned to keep the whole unit completely stock with a Beolink 1000 but the 5000 is just stunning.

Great looking system, and a good buy.  Love the low lying design of it all - very minimal and sleek :-)

    Ed,

I'll be away for much of May but please count me in for any time after that.  Apologies for not ringing you but I haven't been to Melbourne for months!  Will contact you to see your system when I'm down in the Big Smoke!  Cliff

    Re: Hello from Australia

    Hi everyone,

I Just made my third B&O purchase -

A Beomaster 8000, in my quest to build a Beosystem 8000 - my favourite of all the Beosystems.

Which Beocord is the most correct or considered the best to go with the Beomaster 8000- Beocord 8000, 8002, 8004, 9000?

The unit should be arriving in the next couple of days - will photograph it.

I look forward to hearing some opinions.

    Lex.

    Re: Hello from Australia

I would imagine the most correct or considered BeoCord would be the BeoCord 8000.  The first two sources for the BeoMaster 8000 were the BeoCord 8000 and the BeoGram 8000.  I think this model was around 1981.  The BeoCord 8002 and 9000 were later, 1982-86.

Will you be playing many cassette tapes, or you're just after the 'complete' system?

    Re: Hello from Australia

    Thanks Michael,

I am guessing that most of us do not use all the functions on our vintage B&O systems, but it seems we all like to have the 'complete set' with everything in working order anyway.

To be honest I mainly use my ipod connector on my Beosystem 4500 and it sounds lovely through the Beolab 5000s.

Once the Beomaster arrives I will search for my Beocord, Beogram and I would love a SC80.2 stand as well, if anyone knows where I can find one in Australia.

    Lex.

    Never understood that phrase.

The phrase "the dogs bo****ks" comes from the early sales of Meccano when they supplied 2 main differing standards of sets.

The more expensive set was called the "box delux" which (being English) was quickly spoonerismed into the phrase mentioned above & meaning something above the ordinary or special.

At the same, Meccano also was sold in a  cheaper set known as "box standard" which has morphed into the phrase "bog standard" meaning something fairy average.

    Chris.

The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.
