Do you have any cassette player at all?

Any tape "out" output would be at line level and would record to a pc (line in) OK . Decent PC software would help to establish the best recording levels etc. Good trial versions are available for short term use - my preference is Adobe Audition (the BBC also use it). Once recorded in wav format it can be saved in any other format to suit.

You're all set then Sandy, all you need is a suitable cable and the software. I would probably use the 6500 (definitely if your recording happens to use Dolby C).

You will need a 5-pin DIN to 3.5 mm stereo plug adapter. Note that a generic "iPod to B&O" cable with those connectors will not work, as it is connected to the input pins in the DIN and you want the signal that comes out of it.

I would get a DIN to 4xRCA adapter (which covers both directions) and a 2xRCA to 3.5mm plug adapter, those will be useful for the other need as well.

Then just hook it up as Puncher explained, press play and tweak until you get the signal in your recording software.

Blast - I've just typed a quite lengthy post only to find Mika has beaten me to it!

Nevermind sounds like you're almost good to go!

A good freeware sound recorder/editor is Audacity and can be found HERE - it will be good enough if you are only going to use it once or twice and is quite a small download, a free months trial of Audition can be found HERE although it is a much bigger download (~300mb).

(If you intend to do a lot of audio editing/recording go for Audition, it's a professional application).

Re: How to, cassette to pc.

Whay Mika is saying is that you need to connect from the left & right outputs of your beocord to a 3.5mm stereo jack plug to go in the "line-in" of your pc. The output from the Beocord is actually a din plug carrying both L&R In&Out and so some leads (like the ipod type he describes) will have the 3.5mm plug connected to the input pins of the din plug to allow you to record external sources on your tape recorder.

Unless you are certain that the you are buying has the output pins connected to the 3.5mm jack, Mika is recommending getting a generic "Din to Phono" lead which converts both stereo in and out from the beocord to 4 off phono plugs. This together with a 2 x phono to 3.5mm plug adapter will allow you to configure the lead you need.

PErsonally I'd use one of these:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5MM-STEREO-CONNECT-PLAYER-FRONT/dp/B002KGD572/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=garden&qid=1267699687&sr=8-4

Which would plug directly into the headphone socket of the B&O.

    Regards,
    Cal

This would indeed work, although you're then passing through the ouvertures headphone amp - I'm not sure of it's quality nor indeed that of the source material however, if you are just going to compress the resulting recording for posting on YouTube then such a lead will definitely do the job.

I believe the headphone volume will need to be kept very low to avoid overloading the sound card input and distorting the sound, otherwise it'll be fine.

No harm in trying, you might even have such a cable lying around somewhere (for example, some monitors come with one to connect the sound from the computer to the internal speakers).

I have a b&o  din plug to  3.5mm jack plug, but it is configured to play INTO the B&O.   I could modify it if i knew what 2 correct pins to use ?

Leave the one in the middle alone, it is the ground. Then swap the two others to the opposite side pins.

See the pinout for Audio AUX link and ignore the Datalink pins (6 and 7).

I did record from Beogram to Beocord 6000 and then headphone out to pc line in.

I've used Audacity to record it.

I then put some pictures in window moviemaker along with the audio.

    It's uploaded to youtube.

The song is Danish. Its only aviable on vinyl. My dear uncle were in the Danish grandprix 1979 with this. Other clips are on youtube from that and only a bit of this song so I uploaded it. He did not win.

I believe Youtube really needs your content to be a video clip, that's why you'll always see at least a still image if nothing else. Unfortunately I don't know what kind of easy free solutions there would be for video authoring, but I'm sure someone else does. Also, rudimentary software for stuff like that usually comes bundled with DVD writers, digital cameras, and such.

Ok you can be the stand in stuntman for all of us!Big Smile

Convert the wav to mp3 (I haven't played with Audacity for some time but I would think that if you open your wav from Audacity there would be a "save as" option to resave it as an mp3).

Next you can try THIS - I never tried it or anything similar, I just came across it in a Google search (upload mp3 to youtube).

As Mika says - youtube is really for video and so the link also needs a still photo to link to the audio.

Let us know how you get on!Wink

A thought has struck me - I think you are limited to a max. clip length of 10 minutes on Youtube!

Its a radio commentary of Rangers winning the league title in 1986/87 season.  After a decade in the wilderness, It was Graeme Souness' 1st season as Gers manager.!

I know about utubes 10 min limit, but had made the clip just under.

OK - my fault(ish) - you need to go HERE and download the mp3 encoder plugin for Audacity.

Follow instructions to find the encoder the first time it runs and "export to MP3" from Audacity's menu.

(The mp3 bitrate can be changed from Audacitys preferences menu)
