    beocenter 9000 cd playing up

hi all, ive mentioned before about my 9000 system not always wanting to play but it seems to be getting worse...and it does different things to different cds i.e

    1) WILL PLAY FINE

    2) WILL SPIN, MAKE A LOT OF NOISE, DISPLAYS TRACK NUMBERS, DOESNT PLAY

    3) AS PER 2 ABOVE, BUT DOESNT DISPLAY NUMBERS

    4) TRYS TO SPIN, MAKES A NOISE, THEN THEN DOOR OPENS READY FOR ME TO TAKE THE CD OUT AND THROW IT IN THE BIN!

i bought the system in dec 2009, and was told it was serviced and with new belts etc, its a mint unit, sounds fantastic with my rl60.2 (ON THERE NEW STANDS!) but this intermittent cd problem is alittle embarrasing when friends want a demo of a certain cd etc ! (or when i am still justifying the expense of the system to the wife, when she cant play her favourite cd!!!!

any ideas people? should i clean the lens?

    thanks, glen

It's always a good idea to clean the lens and it may do the trick.
If not, your CD deck will be in need of new capacitors. A kit exists but
it does require some electronic skills and tools to replace the lot.
Shouldn't be too costly a repair though.

Have you set the "Arrows" in their respective placement positions? Depending on if the 9000 is vertical/horizontal/ table mounted, the arrows on the back of the unit need to be put in a preset position.

    That is a BS9000, not BC...Smile

This seems like the cd clamper is loose, not holding the disc to the turntable. Some discs are thinner and so worse for this.

Very common problem with the BC9000,and replacement clamper kits are harder to find than Lord Lucan these day's!!

Mines the same, but I use a lightweight ferrite ring magnet to hold the disc in place, and it works great until I can come up with a more elegant solution.

In fairness the clamper has probably cracked due to age since you bought the unit.

I took a cd out the other day, and the small grey plastic piece which the is where the centre of the cd goes around, came out with the CD, along with 2 of the 3 ball bearings...quickly relocating theball bearing, then superglueing the grey section back in place, my CD collection is now playable!!! thanks all for your help !

Ball bearings?? In a Beocenter 9000???

I have never seen a Beocenter 9000 with that system.

You must have a unique CD mechanism. What is the type number of the beocenter?

Any chance of picture inside the CD compartment?

I think he must be referring to the three little steel balls at the clamp.
Not unlike the old Playstations (but that PS clamp doesn't fit the BC9000 spindle motor
shaft diameter - yes, I have tried).
