    BeoMedia1 Constantly Rebooting! Any clues??

Hi all. After installing the newest version of Beoport my Beomedia 1 is constantly rebooting. Has anyone experienced something like that and do you you have any clues about the remedy on this issue?? Thank you in advance.

No, I haven't had any problems after installing beoport and beoplayer on several computers.

Attach a keyboard to your bm and restart your bm. Try to choose the "recovery" option during booting.

Thank you for your answer. Did that already. Also downgraded to previous version of Beoport. No change. And it is strange because nothing changed on my otherwise working fine system…. Any other clues ???

The power supply seems ok. It lights up the green light. Or that is irrelevant if the power supply comes to its end??

BeoMedia 1 has the external power supply, and an internal power management/control/monitoring board...both are prone to failure in early units...your symptom fits the profile for in internal PCB.

Hi Russ. Thank you for your reply. If it is the internal PCB , is it something i can change by myself?? And do you happen to know the cost of it?

My BM1 exhibited Exactly the same behavior.

Turned out to be the internal pcb and replacing the external power supply.

    FWIW

Thanks Barry. I will check it. Since i am not under warranty anymore, do you happen to know the cost of it??

Just for future reference. It was the external power supply that failed. 15 Euros, a new one and everything is up and running again. Thank you all for your contributions on this.

    Thanks for sharing Dimitris!

My dealer swapped my powersupply, but I didn't have these problems.

I thought it had something to do with a kind of precaution of fire/heatproblems. But apparently this was the reason.

Re: BeoMedia1 Constantly Rebooting! Any clues??

    Hi All,

have the same symptoms with my BM1.
My dealer diagnosed also that the PCB DC-DC Converter and the Power Supply need to be changed, would cost 400€.
Only the external power supply shall cost already 110€, not just 15€.

Then I thought it's not worth for this old box. Maybe I can do it cheaper myself.

I opened the beomedia, but can't identify which is that PCB DC-DC Converter, could somebody give me a hint?

And has anybody an idea where to get these parts beside from the local B&O dealer ?

    Thanks in advance

The dealer will probably be not happy with me...

Inside there are 6x 1000uF 10 Volt caps on the DC-DC board. Change these with new ones, 1000uF 16Volt.

    The old ones are defective.

About the external PS. Smash the casing gently on a solid table or rock..

The glue needs to break between the 2 halfs. This PS isn't screwed together, so will have probably some minor damage. But he, another PS costs more.

Inside the external PSU there another 3 caps with also 1000uF/10V each. You have to change these also. You can place 4 caps if you will.

The cost are about 10 times 0,75 euro, so that's a bit cheaper.....

You only need to solder. But these caps are sold in the most common stores for electronic parts.

BTW, the DC-DC board is a small board on the mainboard with the dimensions 6x6cm.

These 6 caps are placed on top of it.

Hint: Not very nice, but just cut tho old ones and just solder the new ones on it. Pay attention to the polarization (+) and (-) on the caps.

Re: BeoMedia1 Constantly Rebooting! Any clues??

    Hi Beobuddy,

thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. Now I understand what the problem is and what needs to be done. Unfortunately I'm not an expert in solding, either I will have to find somebody or buy a new power supply and the whole small board with the DC-DC Converter.

    Thanks again
