    Pentalab 2 Refurb

    Good Morning to all

i have just bought some PentaLab 2 and of course foam rot has set in.....

    so, questions and/or advice...

    should i....

    replace drivers....

    refoam..........( best suppiler)

    replace/refoam only what needs doing.....

do them myself ........( ham fisted and no patience...lol)

    do refoamed perform as well.....

    will replacement drivers last.....

i have looked through various threads on refoaming, and while it looks a pain i am sure i can do it....but replacing the drivers looks easier but more expensive ( i am guessing the drivers are still available)

    regards

    andy

I had the same problem with my pentas and I refoamed them. The cost was less then 10% of what new drivers from B&O would cost.

I bought the new foam rings from Good Hifi in Netherlands. They also have rubber rings but I went for original material (foam). http://www.goodhifi.com/  and then go to the webshop.

It was quite easy to refoam the drivers, the trick is to find something to press down the ring to the cone and the frame while the glue is hardening. After some research in the kitchen area I found two mugs in different sizes. There is a refoam manual at Good Hifi's website.

Talk to Brett when he calls next Sunday.

Against my advice,  he has just refoamed a pair of Penta II and will be able to give you all the information!

Personally, I have bought replacement drivers in the past and they are still available at around £25-£30 each.

    Regards Graham
