    BeoCom 5 vs BeoCom 6000

    Hi All,

    I am after getting a new phone for the bedroom, something that I can mistreat and not be afraid to drop. The BeoCom 2 is out of the question because I have one already and I'm too scared of scratching it! LOL. Anyyyway.

    From the people that already have the BeoCom 5, software issues aside, do you find that you use the speaker phone functionality? Also, if I don't use it, i.e. phone to phone, is the BeoCom 5 handset 'better' than the BeoCom 6000?

    What made people go for the BeoCom 5, just the fact that its a new phone? I don't need the VOIP functionality since my provider is based on it and gives me almost unlimited calls. For me its comfort that's the priority.

    Your thoughts please :=)

    Re: BeoCom 5 vs BeoCom 6000

    Having both the Beocom 5 and  Beocom 6000 in easy reach, I find I always naturally go for the  Beocom 6000 - the sound clarity is better, the ergonomics are more natural - OK it's not as shiny and new but I think apart from the looks just about everything is better on the 6000.  I've had my Beocom 5 since November 09 so had a while to get used to it; I'm sure it needs to be flashed or something.

    Also noted, in another thread, that on 3 occasions I have suddenly heard a loud static noise and then been cut off from the other person. The phone also restarted itself numerous times whilst on the speaker base, for some reason this has now stopped!!

    I loved the Beocom 5 when I first got it, but sadly I’ve come to the conclusion that it doesn’t perform functionally as well as the 6000 and isn’t a design icon like the Beocom 2 – so not really sure where it fits in.

    Re: BeoCom 5 vs BeoCom 6000

    I got my Beocom5 because I wanted a speaker phone on the same system as my 6000s. But the speaker base (in the UK) currently just doesn't work - the person at the other end can't hear you due to breakup - theoretically it should be OK after a promised (sometime) software upgrade. The Beocom5 is pretty (but the 6000 isn't ugly), but its ergonomics aren't as good as the 6000. The 'OK' button in the centre is very small, and it is difficult to press it wthout first accidentally pressing up/down/left or right on the wheel (eg cut the call off!!). It has lower case, which the 6000 doesn't. With Beoline2 it has a bigger phonebook (but you can't use 6000 Mk1 with Beoline2). With Beoline 6000, to find a number in the phonebook, you can just spin the wheel if you don't want/need to use the alphabet selection; with Beocom5, it ALWAYS insists that you select a letter first - even if you want to call Aaron!! The number keys are shiny and close together - not nearly as easy to use as the 6000.

    Hi Guys,

    These are the exact honest reviews I was after. Thanks. I really hope that B&O fix the software issues the BC5 has.

    Assuming they fix the software though, I think that with the BV6000 being cheaper and for what I need it for, it might just suffice.

    Do you guys use the BC5 as your main phone or seconardy phone?

    Re: BeoCom 5 vs BeoCom 6000

    The aim was to have it as the main phone (with speaker). It sits in the lounge. But since the speaker doesn't work it isn't first choice. In fact, the Beocom5 doesn't start ringing or showing the caller id until 10 seconds after the 6000s!!... so I have time to walk across to my desk and look at the 6000 before the 5 tells me who is calling. This may be something to do with my current base setup, pending changes - I have Mk 1 6000s, so need a Beoline PSTN (due this week to replace incompatible Beoline2). Currently am using BOTH original 6000 pyramid base AND Beoline 2, both on same phone line with splitter.

    Re: BeoCom 5 vs BeoCom 6000

    After the initial shipment, delivery of any new phones was delayed (at least in the UK, but I assume worldwide) while the software issues were sorted. The new phones should be hitting dealers this week, so be interesting to see if the problems have been solved.

    just installed my beocom 5 and think the phone looks great! however!!!! the volume is totally useless! the base speaker unit is fine but the handset volume is very low indeed even at the highest setting. Just wondered if anyone has the same problem? If it cant be fixed through settings, its going back.

    cheers, tom.

    Re: BeoCom 5 vs BeoCom 6000

    i bought two of them and i might as well have two tins of beans sitting on my tables for all the use they are - they are junk in current setup, so unless the resolve the sound problems with a new sw upgrade soon, mine too are going back - and even using them with screen away from ear the sound is poor.  The sound on my speaker oneconstantly fades in and out and its keeps disconnecting from the base though its less then 3 metres away:(:(

    overall, i feel a company like B&O putting this junk on the market is appalling.

    anyway...

    When did you buy them?

    I've got mine since last wednesday with the latest shipment.

    I can't recognize these problems in my setup. I use the black ISDN base at 15 metres away.

    brought mine in December, nothing but problems, sent them back to dealer last week, got a full refund, my 8year old beocom 6000 are built to last. these cheap chezch beocom 5's are a big disapointment,  compatibility issues with different base units, bad speaker volume. software issues,  im sorry but a telephone that costs £250 before you can even make a call, should not hit the shops until fully tested.

    Yeah i dont get it myself, how can something be released without even testing it?!

    The worse bit is that its the easiest thing to tested because it should only be compatible with the standard phone line and standard B&O equipment.

    They just need to test their phones, which are only 5, 2 of which not cordless. Its not like they have to make it compatible with other 3rd party products.

    They must spent hours testing the phones in the torture chambers and repacking them!

    What a train wreck! Super Angry

    My quote from another BC5 thread...

    ++++

    Frankly, I was hoping for a 6000 Mk3 that added the speakerphone capability right in the handset, so... say as I walk to another location, I could set the phone down, hit speaker, and continue the conversation. In fact, I am surprised they did not take this route, as this is supposedly the last phone from B&o ever??? I can't believe they would have gone to all this trouble + development of a new beoline base (that is not even completely compatible w/ your legacy BC's?), when they simply could have added a "SPK" button to the 6000! Imagine if the $ and resources had been spent on... oh I don't know... the BS5 or the new BV7???

    ++++
