How many of you have purchased a system from Classic Audio (Beolab 5000)

    Hello,

I was just curious how many of the members here have actually gone through with a restored system from Classic Audio?  I recently put my deposit down and am waiting for my system!  I decided to go through with getting the full Classic system (Beovox 5000 & Beovox 2500 along with the Beolab/master).  I imagine there aren't many here.  Any stories about your experience?  So far Frede has been fantastic to work with...seems like a real artist and I wish he would live forever!  I would love to read a biography of Frede someday.

Well, i'm one of the lucky ones who has the pleasure of having Frede restoring my 5000 system at the moment.  He is also making a 'best of the rest' from the nicest remaining parts of all the seperates (there were a number!) i gave him that will be a BeoWorld Prize in a future Prize Draw. I look forward to that.

Frede is (unfortunately for the world) a man that's 'one in a million'..  a true gentleman, a brilliant engineer, a perfectionist, and a true lover of the very best hi-fi from a great era in B&O history.  He was there at the time.

    good choice macjonny1,

i think you'll get a superb restored system... probably better than in 1967 a new one. ;-)

the beosystem 5000 is a true iconic and frede a perfectionist.

    best regards

Lee and I picked mine up last year. I had the Beomaster, Beolab , cubes and Beogram 3000 restored. I still have my Beovox 5000s that need the treatment though they have been serviced in the UK. The quality of Frede's work cannot be exaggerated. The documentation is also fantastic.

I would always recommend going to get it simply to meet Frede and to see the incredible care he takes with each product. You can also take in the superb Struer Museum at the same time.

I was so impressed by the seriousness of Frede's approach to renovating mine. I found Classic Audio over the internet and thought it looked promising, but also thought it wouldn't take long before I'd be told the set was ready to be collected.

No - first he spent some time searching for good core units, then he informed me that work had begun (you get a link where you can track progress), and then he went through a long period of testing and measuring the units, ensuring they answered to factory specifications, and then actually improved on those.

After such attention and care from him, I just couldn't get myself to entrust the two refurbished units to a shipping company. I got in my car and drove to Struer. Well, the ferry took me the first stretch. My visit with him was a fine experience.

I use them every single day, and feel as if I've been entrusted with heirlooms.

Can't recommend his services enough, quite simply.

I don't know if my 5500 system counts as Classic Audio?

My parents gave it to me last year when they up-graded to a new B & O system...but the CD 5500 needs fixing (well...hopefully i can get it fixed...the Bristol dealer told my parents that the laser had 'gone' and the unit was now deceased!).

...UPDATE...i can now see that my 5500 is not Classic Audio...i will have to wait a few more years until it becomes that!

    Cd lazer dead?

Not likely. Some caps and resoldering will most likely get it back to life.

Standard lousy reply when they are not aware otherwise.

Get in touch with Dillen on this site.

Keep the CD5500. it can be fixed. Many B&O cd players have got that cd lazer dead reply and being scrapped.

I would love to be able to go get it but alas, I am on the other side of the pond in the US.  It makes me wonder if there is anyone at all in the US who will have one of these systems!  Maybe we can find a way to keep Frede from getting old because I will need him to restore this system again in another 30-40years!

I was thinking also that even though ordering from Frede is certainly more expensive than finding one on ebay, they really are an incredible value given what he does.  Especially when you consider you can buy a complete system for the price of a couple of new B&O speakers!  I'm actually surprised more haven't gone through with a restore from Frede!

    Whistle ...but not from Frede.

I'd say: Go for it! Nobody knows them better than Frede. Your system would be better than when originally delivered. They are THEE Beo from THEE top BM/BL5000 expert in the world.

    Where in the states, macjohnny?

I'm up in Washington (state), way on the other side!  I'm hoping for a good shipping experience from Denmark when the time comes.

Well, if you are ever in the Carolinas... my door is always open for a listen to the system.

Thanks for the offer!  We are alike then in the feeling of being deserted because I don't know of anyone with B&O equipment!

For the forum members not in the states...

The usual response to ownership of B&o over here: "Oh, I had a B&o train set when I was a kid"! Indifferent
