Nest Thermostat with our Beosound 3000

I took this photo to show our recently installed Nest thermostat, but you can also see our BeoSound 3000 in the corner of our livingroom.  I use the bamboo sticks to help hide the antenna.  In the drawer, I keep the remote when not in use and a generation 1 Apple TV connected to the aux for Airplay music.  I might be changing the arangement since I think the AppleTV draws 25 watts of power even when not in use.  The design of the Nest really complements the B&O, compared to our previous beige box thermostat.

Looks like Honeywall has taken notice.  I hope it doesn't put Nest out of business.  We have 4 of them, but I still need another one for our library.

Honeywell goes after Nest Learning Thermostat for patent infringement

The first one I find pretty humorous:

U.S. Patent No. 7,634,504 - this patent was filed in 2006 (issued 2009) and covers displaying grammatically complete sentences while programming a thermostat.

I guess they could circumvent it easily grammatically noncompletical sentences usageing? Stick out tongue

Looks like the prototype BS5 display from 1938. At the bottom you have N.MUSIC album mode , at the top N.RADIO stations.

To the left you can see the four colored favourite lists. If you turn the needle very fast it will activate the MOTS function. MOTS was driven by a little steam engine at that time, so it took some time to heat up the machine.

Surprise I never realized the colours are the same... and in the same order!

I think the first modern appearance of the coloured buttons concept was with FASTEXT short cut selections in the Teletext system; this feature is from the early '90s (probably specified late in the '80s) so it will predate the Beo4. But I can't believe anybody would've done it earlier than the '30s scale artist at B&O!

What an amazing piece of trivia! Thanks for spotting it Stefan! Laughing

    Re: Flash your B&O!

I bought a Beocenter 2500 last week from eBay for our exercise room.  The table is temporary.  I think a small cabinet would be better so the cords would be hidden, plus storage for our towels and water.

I also couldn't resist getting a Beosound 2000 / Century from eBay for $250 Buy-it-Now, including a Beo4.  It has some rips in the speaker fabric, the LCD on the remote was broken, and the antenna is missing the tip, but those things can be fixed.  I already ordered a replacement screen and will recover the speakers.

The sound is ok, but after the glowing reviews I read on this forum, I was not too impressed.  Maybe mine is broken.

For a compact system, I prefer just using our Philips Fidelio SoundAvia AD7000W or the Philips SoundRing.  You can get a factory refurbished SoundAvia on Overstock.com for $125 and to me it sounds about the same as the Century, if not slightly more pleasant.  They both lack much bass.  I have all our music on an iTunes server and play it through the iPhone remote app.  With the Philips airplay speaker, I don't need to add an Airport Express, AUX cable, and have to make sure the speaker is turned on and selected AUX.

Still, I love the design and never thought I would ever own one.  Not sure where I will put it yet.  This was an expensive week.

While not a B&O, I'd like to share a photo of my 20th Anniversary Mac.  I'm sure Johnathn Ives drew some inspiration from B&O for the vertical CD.  This was my primary computer in college for two years in 1998-2000.  I actually bought two and flipped one of them for enough profit on eBay to pay for the one I kept.  The funny thing is that I sold it to a Microsoft exec.  The 12" screen is absurdly small by today's standards, but at the time felt very futuristic, like I was using a computer out of star trek.

Hi, those were actually Frederik's photos (I just edited the links to make the active), but I do have a BeoLab 11 and would happily photograph it for you ... what is it you wanted to see ?

Here is an old shot of mine ... since moved from the BV8 to the BS4 ...

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

    Re: Flash your B&O!

Some people here may have seen it on the new forum... So I also post it here.

That was my previous flat (I'm still between 2 flats, only one changes...), everything is now ready to move to another flat... With coffee tables this time! It was a kind of "danish corner"...

Now I will have to find a place for the light in a standard 2,5m roof flat! Huh?

Very picture.. Although the BV8 is discontinued.. Find it a classic design already...

The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.
