BeoSystem 3 based products better than other?

Are BeoSystem 3 based televisions from Bang&Olufsen like BV7, BV9, BV4 really so much better than the other like BV8, BV10?

What does BeoSystem offer more? Is it worth to spent so much money to buy BV7 40'' with BeoSytem 3 as BeoVision 40'' that is not BeoSystem based costs less money? Of course there is a difference in sound, but BeoVision 10 40'' is very thin and looks very good too.

Without talking about the picture and sound quality, let's list the features that are only available in BS3 based systems:

    - Output for external projector

    - More video input

    - ??

Following features that come to my mind with BS 3:

    - Ability to turn the stage (e.g. for different viewing positions for TV and projector)

    - Ability to display Dolby 10.2

    -...

A DVDO iScan Duo,for approximately £1000,would provide all the flexibility one would wish for, unless one specifically required scart connections.

In combination with a non BS3 equipped B & O TV,the two would be an attractive proposition.

The BeoSystem 3 is for the serious home theater or consumer of video content.

-The VisionClear package is far more expansive on the BeoSystem 3 including the Pixelworks chipset. (picture is significantly improved on same screen type)

-Ability to run in Cinema Mode by managing the transition to a projector and turning the soundstage (or managing a second zone for cinema viewing)

    -Additional inputs

    -DSP for multiple listening positions

-Broader range of supported sound formats

-MUX output for local automation features like triggering shades, lighting scenes, drop screens, etc.

So there's a pretty big difference, but on the other hand you're paying for a lot of features you may not be using. There's only one room in my house, for example, that can get the additional benefits that the BeoSystem 3 offers. The other rooms are fine with BV8s.

Re: BeoSystem 3 based products better than other?

My understanding is that the chipset in the BV10/BV8 is also from Pixelworks albeit a different part number.

How much better (if at all) is the chipset in the BV7 (other than driving another video out etc.) Quantitatively we'll never find out.

This is one of the problems of a forum such as this - it's pretty much impossible to get to the bottom of the real technical differences or at least separate them from any marketing "differentiation" B&O may apply to separate the products and their price points.

As Trip says, if you only need a TV (without the projector facility etc.) then view the contenders side by side, viewing the same source material, ask questions about the settings of each models (i.e. is each TV set to give the best possible picture) and then decide for yourself.

Regarding audio formats, there are several lengthy and heated threads about which formats are and are not supported by the BS3.

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

BS3 is the B+O flagship video engine and switching box.

    Also has home automation facility.

Fully flash upgradable (Proper TV Tech only)

    BV7-40 MK111 and MK V has BS3 built in.

Yes it is the best video source they make.
