    Masterlink Gateway

What benefits does the ML gateway offer over a FULLY functional and integrated beo5 (i.e. all 3d party controlled)?

    Thanks

The MLGW does nothing on its own, but allow your home automation system to control your B&O system and vice versa.

So with a Beo5 you could send commands to your Home automation system in order to control devices that are not controlled by IR and not in the same room.

Also the home automation system could, based on some events (time, temperature, presence detector) send commands to your B&O system.

    Re: Masterlink Gateway

Does anyone have the RS232 protocols for the MLGW?

Specifically, I want to hook it up to a SavantAV automation system and have

the Savant control the B&O. .

I would assume that the MLGW will do anything I could do with a B&O remote. .

I.E. if the software for the HA has a picture of the Beosound 9000 and I press disc 3 in the picture. .the MLGW could tell the Beosound 9000 to turn on disc three just like if I used the BEO5 remote in a link room. .

Is there any reason this wouldn't work?

The next major software update to the MLGW will allow direct serial control for devices like Savant. That way, instead of relying on B&O to internally build and test the modules for new systems like AMX, Control4, Savant, etc, the dealers will write the codes for what they need and, I'm sure, be able to share. We'll see how this manifests once it's released, but I know that there are already a few dealers interested in Savant as a Crestron alternative.

    Well,

I have ordered my MLGW..  will report with results.

I expect to incorporate it with Lutron Radiora 2

    Any tips?

    Trip,

You seem to be the only guy who knows much about the MLGW.  Do you have version 2?  The instructional video looks like you can basically have it do full B&O automation throughout the home .. .and. . .create your own iPhone custom app?

Sometimes I feel like it. Smile

I have the most current version (MKII). Here's the nickel tour:

    1. Address all ML items on the network (BeoVisions, BeoSounds, Active & Passive Kits) and name them (Bedroom, Living Room, ect.).

    2. Address any connected automation processors (Lutron Homeworks, RA, RA2, etc.)

    3. Build your macros by defining the input (i.e. LIGHT 4 pressed in Bedroom) and the output (i.e. Button 2 on Keypad 3)

The inputs can be literally any input (say from the Lutron keypad OR a Beo4 button press) and the outputs can be literally any output(s). The Beo5 has dedicated Control Commands that are ideal for inputs so that there is no conflict with commonly used inputs on the Beo4 or SeeTouch keypads.

    Any other questions just ask.

    Re: Masterlink Gateway

    Thanks Trip,

My idea is to use Ra2 for lighting/automation.  I do not have shades but was going to tell the MLGW to use the shade up/down buttons for B&O volume. . . any reason this won't work?

Also, I am going to try to use a couple scene buttons on the SeeTouch for Sources, i.e. CD and Radio. . .

Is this possible?  Along that same line, could I make one of the SeeTouch buttons be the "forward" button from a Beo4? Soas to advance through playlists on N.Music?

Lastly, can you have the Ra2 SeeTouch buttons do no macros for Lutron but serve only as an input for MLGW?

Yes and no. You can absolutely use a keypad button as the Input in a macro and it can certainly change the volume up and down. However the press is not continuous. This means to turn the volume down you'll have to click 30-40 times depending on how high you have the volume.

Yes. This is possible and works perfectly.

    MJM

Sure, you certainly could. We've often thought of using RA as "the keypad B&O never made" in link rooms and the volume issue is the only thing that's held us back. Of course, in our role as integrators, that crucial piece has kept us from proposing it as a solution (it would be too glaring an omission), but as an end-user who knows the score, you could certainly put this together and have the SeeTouch keypads engraved with the correct labels (a single engraving is included with each SeeTouch). I would say that it would certainly be a waste to omit lighting though!

    Well,

I talked with the potential HA guy for my job.  He says that Ra2 has some limitations. .I.E. no override during an astronomical clock event, and. . no fireplace control. .etc.

So, he's trying to steer me towards doing a SavantAV HA with Vantage Lighting. . .

I know that Ra and Ra2 play nicely with B&O MLGW, my question is. . . how do I make Savant interact with B&O. . . Or, am I forced to sit and wait until B&O decides to let the other HA companies (besides those listed in the MLGW drop down) play?

I did look at a homeworks system but the costs was just too much. .the house is only about 3000 sq ft.  homeworks costs didn't seem to make since.

    Thanks. .

    Re: Masterlink Gateway

Hi, I hope you don't mind if I'm replying in this tread...

I'm really interested in the MLGW since I have an IHC system in my home (lives in Sweden). The IHC system doesn't have any touch panels, so the Iphone app that can be used with MLGW will really improve the IHC system.  I also have some older B&O equipment and my question is if they will work with the MLGW. It is not so important that I can interact with the MLGW from my B&O stuff since I'm planning on using the Iphone app, but it would be really nice if I could interact with the B&O stuff from the Iphone app.

My system consists of a BeoSound 3000 (with non Beospeakers connect via a ML/MCL converter), Beolab 3500, Beolab 4000 connected via a BeoLink active.

Is it possible to use the MLGW with my system: fully, in some limited way or not at all?

As I have read the BeoSounds need to be in option 0 (no IR reception), is that so even if I don't have any video products?

Or is it so that I need a Video product in order to controll any of my B&O equipment?

Many questions, I hope that you give me some answers!

    Thanks in advance / Lars

I'd sit tight. Vantage is a terrible system and difficult to grow with. Savant is tempting, but won't be needed. Later this summer Lutron is releasing Homeworks QS that will be a lower cost version of Homeworks with added flexibility (including T-stats and AV control (meaning that pesky continuous press issue should be resolved)!). We're very excited about this prospect and I'd guess you'd find it a better fit for your home and your budget than a current HW system or a Savant / Vantage system.

    Re: Masterlink Gateway

I called Lutron about this problem.  They basically said my HA guy was wrong. .

I then got a call from the HA guy saying he had the programming wrong.

I am wondering if I can FOR SURE use Ra2 to trigger B&O. . .Trip, since you have

the MLGW can you confirm for me that RA2 is in the drop down menu of the programming software

I want to connect a lamp to a seetouch and use i.e. 90% for CD,80% for N.Music, 70% for forward, 60% for up and 50% for down. .

      Will this work?

The main concern is whether or not I can send the "UP" scene command more than one time. .so when I press scene "UP" two times in a row will that command send twice?
