Apple Lossless (ALAC) on BM5 soon

I read in the French forum that a software update would be available in course of 2010 in order to enable the BM to use Apple Lossless (ALAC) files. That would be great news. Can anyone here confirm that? Many thanks and regards, js

Re: Apple Lossless (ALAC) on BM5 soon

    Did anyone ever try THIS??

I posted on it HERE, last April. It enabled me to play ALAC using WMP11 which (I assume) is the basis of the BM5. Can't try BM5 as I don't have one!Big Smile

All attempts (and subsequent results) are of course entirely at your own risk!Laughing

Perhaps a dealer would be willing to give it a shot ??????????Hmm

Thanks a lot Puncher. A bit complicated for me though, so I remain interested in any confirmation that B&O will implement an easy way to use ALAC files with the BM5 indeed. Many thanks, js

I asked Customer Support this question ealy this month. The reaction I got was:

We have to inform you that BeoMaster 5 is not specified to work with Apple Lossless
formats, and therefore cannot play such files.
However, this is something which is being looked at, but no definite plans have been
    agreed upon yet.

We have passed your wish on to the responsible department for their information.

Perhaps I am a bit cynical, but I do not expect much taken into consideration the last software updates. However, you never know :-)

Re: Apple Lossless (ALAC) on BM5 soon

I asked Beocare and got the following answer:

We are pleased to inform you that we expect to release a new software for BeoMaster 5 later this year, which will be compatible with Apple Lossless. Smile

At this moment we do not have a precise release date. Erm

    Kind regards,

@js   Interestingly, I got such a confirmation from my dealer yesterday as well. He also stated that the software include the option to access shared directories on the network. His expectation was that the software update will be released mid or end Q2.

It would be even more interesting if they will release an update with FLAC support !!!

Why is it so difficult to let the users know what plans B&O have with the BM5, especially in terms of planned future update features.

    There is something about B&O.....

Because that they want doesn't mean actually that they will actually pull it off unfortunately and then customers will be upset.
