Beogram 2400 - autolift mechanism problems

Curious if anyone has seen this problem before. I just picked up a Beogram 2400. Everything works fine except that the arm does not lift itself up before returning from "play" mode. The problem lies in the lack of tension on the spring for the auto return system shown in the picture. The spring is supposed to put pressure on the brass rod so that when the cam it is connected to moves it moves up or down.

I have a 2402 which has a very similar lifting mechanism, except that it has a small piece of plastic that juts out underneath (or above depending on your orientation) of the spring. It does not appear that anything has broken on my 2400 though.

Has anyone seen this problem before and knows if there is something missing or knows of a good modification? It doesn't look like there's enough surface area to get a good bond using superglue if I were to try modifying it.

Re: Beogram 2400 - autolift mechanism problems

    Welcome to Beoworld !

I can't see anything wrong in the photo.
The usual problem is that the vertical brass rod has seized in
    dried lubricants inside its bushing.
We've seen this twenty times or more.
Do a search on the forum and you will find lots more info and I believe
also a photo (not unlike yours) showing where to lubricate.
If something is indeed broken, let us know.

    Martin,

Yes, a little lubrication did the trick. Thanks for the info.

Did they make some modifications to the mechanism in the 2402 to counteract this?

No. It was not a problem until many years after production of this series of turntables ended.
    Well done !
