Hope someone can help or share specific experience in this area!
Our new BV8-40 is working like a dream, including its built-in DVB module, which produces a beautiful picture quality. It is a wonderful set and we’re extremely pleased with it. There’s just one thing not 100% that keeps bugging me in the back of my mind:
I have recently connected the BV8-40 to a new Apple Mini, using the Kanex mini-DVI to HDMI converter, and an HDMI cable, plugged into the BV8.
Digital sound from the Mac Mini is added in by connecting it by mini-jack/optical (S/PDIF) into the same Kanex convertor.

Setup:
- On the BV8-40, (Connection 3) I selected HDMI as the input, configuring it as ‘unknown PC’. I tried both the HDMI a and HDMI b connectors.
- On the Mac Mini, I selected the 1080P (1920 * 1080) resolution to make full use of the TV set’s screen size and detail.
Result:
Sound comes through fine. With respect to the picture however, while it is very usable, it somehow looks like it is not totally sharp, as if it is being up- or downscaled, and not as razor-sharp as I would expect for a PC display being used at its native resolution. It is certainly less sharp and clean than what I get on my 17” iMac screen. For instance, small character text seems to look a little bit ‘wiggly’.
Has anyone else made this comparison? Am I expecting too much, by comparing it with the picture quality of a fully integrated iMac? Or am I doing something wrong with the connections, or with the settings, either on the BV8-40, or on the Mini?
Thanks for any insights anyone may have!
